@Nifflas @mcc Using git all over the place for a decade and a half, in all sorts of projects & functions, with decent skill at juggling more advanced flows, I still don’t grok how someone can actually _like_ it.

I appreciate systemic aspects just like I might appreciate a database design. Still doesn’t mean I’d be doing data entry by query writing and liking it.

TLDR; Implementation is great, level of abstraction is ridiculous, people presumably have Stockholm syndrome?

@AngryAnt @Nifflas @mcc Haha. Same. Git often makes me grumpy, but every alternative I've tried always makes me more grumpy. >_< I used to think that Subversion was the bee's niece, but it feels so unproductive to me now. :-\

@slembcke @AngryAnt @Nifflas @mcc git is the source control system that makes perforce look very good.

@MouseByTheSea @slembcke @Nifflas @mcc I never saw eye to eye with Perforce. I feel like it and I are from two different worlds and installing it feels like inviting in an adversary to fight for control of my files ;)

@AngryAnt @slembcke @Nifflas @mcc could be worse, we could all be using SourceSafe :)

@MouseByTheSea @slembcke @Nifflas @mcc I... I think you have to put that kind of language behind a content warning?

Brr...

@AngryAnt @MouseByTheSea @Nifflas @mcc Worse... My first "real job" used a VSS knockoff called SourceGear Vault. Not only was it painful, and had zero merge functionality (we maintained 6 active branches O_o), but it consistently blue screened Vista if you locked the screen while it was open!

@slembcke @AngryAnt @Nifflas @mcc never heard of it, but if it made VSS look good then it really did plumb new (to me) lows of source control… we should build a OSS game-focussed source control system, I mean, how hard can it be? :)

@MouseByTheSea @AngryAnt @Nifflas @mcc “Here lies Martin. His last known words: ‘How hard could it be?’”

@slembcke @Nifflas @mcc I found that experiencing corrupted SVN merge data generally cures one of SVN affection.

Unrelated, AFAIK the Unity source repository still cannot be checked out to a version prior to I believe Unity 2.5.1.
