Working on a new about ... It's a work in progress, I still have two panels I can fill out with complains. :)

*edit* Took the pictures on my phone, then added alt text on my computer cuz I can type much faster than I can "text".

A minizine built on hot pink paper, using Cyan and White grid washi tape for accents. The zine's title says "COMPY RANTS", with a drawn Windows 95 style dialog box that contains the subtitle, "Skeezy modern software designs, abandoned ideals, and forgotten features." The dialog box also has a button labeled "Dang."
CUSTOMIZATION You used to be able to customize things more. With Windows 95 & 98 you could change all of the system colors. With Neopets, MySpace, and old message boards you used to be able to customize styles with CSS, or even some custom HTML. These days everything is white washed, sanitized, homogeneous. Laser-focused design to direct your attention (mostly to ads).
MONETIZATION Don't you love subscriptions for Every Damn Thing? I miss when you could just BUY software, movies, and music and not keep paying for them forever. The one or two subscription services were convenient, but now everyone uses the model... even for the use of some color palettes (Pantone Colors in Photoshop). And video games are especially egregious with their various monetization schemes these days.
DATA PRIVACY Plenty of data could be shared locally on your PC or phone, but everything saves it to "the cloud" (a server somewhere), and that data is most likely sold to generate profit. Or, at best, is in a place that is susceptible to data breach. This also means that our apps often become unusable if we don't have an internet connection, holding the app hostage if they can't access your data. DATA SHARING Companies used to share their own data. RSS feeds were widely available and you could use a reader app to aggregate blog posts, news feeds, and even social media. But reading posts off-site doesn't generate ad revenue, so they closed themselves off so you'd have to go to their page directly. There are often APIs for developers to use, but many of them are becoming pay-to-use.
