I like to use #OpenSource tools when I'm teaching, and I'm teaching more game programming to kids age 10-16 in the summer. Love2D worked really well, though I'd like to help them also learn how to make game art.
I mostly just know #GNUimageManipulationProgram but I'm not giving children flash drives with a program named "gimp" on it. Can you imagine what their parents would think??
@Moosader I imagine it would take some thorough editing to scrub all instances of said word. I'd suggest the mascot's name for the program which is Wilber.
It's a shame because I really don't like Adobe.
@Moosader i’m sad that the glimpse fork is no longer around
@bunnyhero yeah I used to use that
@Moosader if it's general drawing, maybe Krita is the one? And if you stick to pixels, there's always Aseprite
@VileLasagna yeah but aesprite is paid so like, yeah I could put it on a flash drive for 16 kids but I don't want to pirate aseprite like that lol. But also it might be a hard ask to have everyone go buy it ahead of time. And then making sure they get it on Itchio when parents aren't gonna know what itchio is, blubluhblubhlh
@Moosader @VileLasagna There's also LibreSprite (although I haven't personally used it for much)
It's essentially a fork of Aseprite from when it was GPL
@sean_earle Nice! Thanks! :D
@Moosader Huh... I thought there was still a free version available. nvm then T_T
@Moosader If you are using Windows with them, I'd say try Paint.Net. I use it as my primary paint program for most simple stuff, it's open source and has a portable version.
@Moosader Possibly Krita? I don't recall if it's open source but it's free and works on Windows and Linux and is pretty good as an art program.
It seems to see that you already answered your question with the tag you wrote to refer to the program. As in their FAQ
https://www.gimp.org/docs/userfaq.html#i-dont-like-the-name-gimp-will-you-change-it
Then renaming the executable in the flash drive as per your tag should work?
Otherwise as other replies, seems that whose nae starts with K...but most reviews cons on difficult UI for beginners:
