WOOOO! BIG NEWS! The BBC Sound Effects library is now FREE TO EVERYONE! This is amazing news for indie devs... https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk/search
#gamedev #IndieDevs #indiegames #GameMaker
EDIT: So, it appears my enthusiasm got the better of me and it's not "free", unless you are a student or non-commercial project. :( Still good for game-jams and prototypes, but ... sigh... sorry...
@NocturneGames Woooo? 'Large ooh and applause' surely? https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk/search?q=07028040 :-)
@NocturneGames @sarahdalgulls According to the terms, it's "For non-commercial, personal or research purposes" or "For formal education purposes while you are a student or a member of staff of a school, college or university".
It is not free for everybody, and the BBC have lawyers who can be impatient about abuse.

@NocturneGames The Finnish equivalent to BBC, Yle, also has a sound effects archive from the last 70 years. https://freesound.org/people/YleArkisto/
@NocturneGames so the first thing I went looking for was airplane noise, of course. Was not disappointed with that https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk/search?q=07063104
@NocturneGames I read the licensing information and don't think this is of any use for indie devs.
edit: sadly comments to federate, so I only saw the other comments to the same effect after i visited your post on the original site. Btw. you can edit you post to include the license trouble information.
@Tom_ofB Hey thanks for reminding me I can edit the post. I have done just that to clarify that "free" isn't quite correct (sadly).
@NocturneGames is this a new development? I thought this had been available for a few years already.
@NocturneGames When I got a copy, I was listening to the laugh tracks and totally recognized them from BLACK ADDER b/c even though that show is the best, they ran that sh!t until the wheels came off.
@NocturneGames @Nazani interesting you can create “mixes” of sounds so easily
@eggimt @NocturneGames Das ist sie schon recht lange ;)
@eggimt @NocturneGames Leider fehlt ihr eine API
Video Games inspired by 70s British SF is the next logical step.
@jpaskaruk @NocturneGames Ballard's Crash, the video game.
@NocturneGames Not for commercial use sadly.
I wanted to be excited but… lousy collection, mediocre search, browsing essentially nonexistent, and the audio seemingly recorded by interns with iPhone 1s or something
@NocturneGames Is there a good Wilhelm Scream in there?
Bookmark the site, download good audio. Good news.
@NocturneGames Some of the pricing doesn't sound too bad, either way I don't have commercial projects so these are brilliant for my needs.
@NocturneGames Freesound has long been my goto but this is a valuable collection.
Just wish the licensing was a bit more explicit with a true open license declaration. Reading the terms sounds like:

It's amazing how little actual tech was used in the early days of the Radiophonic Workshop.
They pioneered quite a lot actually.
