Pro-tip for #Mastodon (web client): you can *pin* basically anything to add new columns to your dashboard.
On mastodon.gamedev.place, I highly recommend to pin the "Local timeline", which will be the gem of this instance.
You can also pin hashtags if you want, or your favourites (yeah, it's back to proper favourites you can check back later, and not "likes" as on Birdsite).
And yeah, "favourite" with en_GB spelling because good ol' @Gargron decided so for the EN localisation, and I like that :P
2022 update: by default the Web client now uses a single column UI.
To get multiple columns à la Tweetdeck like on my above post, you have to enable "Advanced web interface" in the settings. Then you can pin hashtags etc.
@akien This sounds interesting. HOW?
@Mnerurkar Well I've been wondering the same! It used to work in 2017 but I haven't used Mastodon much in the meantime and I can't find a way to do it anymore, at least on the web mobile client.
Maybe it's only in the web desktop client? Or the feature was removed.
@akien I am on web desktop but it seems to not be doable?
@Mnerurkar Tested the web desktop client on my phone, it seems to work:
- Click a hashtag to get a new column with it
- Expand the menu in the top right corner
- Press "Pin"
@akien Huh. nope - I get a full column view of the clicked hashtag. No multi-column stuff for me.
@akien There is still a "FOCUS COLUMN" entry under hotkeys, but I haven't yet found a multi-column view, so...
@Mnerurkar Ah I see, you probably need to enable "Advanced web interface" in the settings, which makes it like Tweetdeck.
It used to be the default but I guess they have a less overwhelming default interface now.
@akien Jup, that was it! Thanks :D
