Zombie processes should have been called ghost processes.

They have unfinished business and can't move on until their death is acknowledged by their parents. That's totally ghost territory not zombie territory.

"Using Rust For Game Development" by Catherine West is amazing (and much relevant outside of Rust too)

Just so you know, "git -amend" doesn't amend anything.

It gets parsed as: git -a -m 'end'

That is, it commits all modified files with a message that just says "end"

New blog post documenting the latest batch of hybrid raytraced shadow performance improvements. With them, quarter resolution HRT shadows cost in Sponza dropped from ~16ms to ~0.8ms. Full res 1920x1080 shadows now cost ~2.5ms (GTX 970).

Only flicked through it so far but the (free, online) chapter of Real-Time Rendering 4th Ed on ray tracing is out now. Looks pretty good for anyone wanting a fast intro up to today.

"How LLVM Optimizes a Function" is pretty cool peek into LLVM optimization passes.

I have been programming since like 1985 and I just realized this minute that a "corner case" is, like, where an edge case hits another edge case and gets even weirder. I've been using "edge case" and "corner case" as synonyms without ever thinking about it.

Another evening of secret production: I don't know where I'm even going with this. 🤷But hey, learned about "Kali Set" fractals :)

Day 4 was jolly scenes and other stuff. Also, I forgot how hard it is to do all this! Apparently practice is needed :)

Day 3 was more textures, more learning of Timeline, Particles, etc. etc. Everything still looks like shit, halp!

Day 2 was kid making fonts & textures, while I was trying to figure out how to use this "Unity" thing :)

Day 1 of surprise secret project: mostly storyboarding and references.

Looks like an influx of new people on this Mastodon instance lately! (I guess birdsite keeps on messing up their platform)
