Hey folks, I'm not dead, and those cute little screenshots of the sheep game aren't going anywhere. Just need to focus my #gamedev energies on my paid work right now.
Which, you'll hear about soon!
From the archives, a great introduction to State Machines in games, with worked examples (C# sourcecode provided):

Regular rpg except instead you start out with all the heavy armor super tank glorious fashion fifteen spikes and end game armor is just a thong & nip covers because you need the freedom to move around send toot
@codeacula I think Dark Souls does this, where "souls" are used to buy stat upgrades and also stuff from stores.
@codeacula Yakuza 0. I know people don't think it's an RPG (it is but whatever) either way the money you earn to buy things is also how you upgrade stats and purchase moves. It becomes a balancing act of leveling up while still having enough cash to do other things. It also encourages you to do the mini games that make you money (cabaret club and apartment sim specifically)
I'm thinking of an RPG based around XP being the main form of currency. Is there any game you can recommend where this has been done?
Keep up with the latest in the world of graphics programming:
So I decided to take a look at Godot engine just to get away from Unity for awhile and I'm a bit miffed that its one of those things again where the developers have rolled their own scripting language only to end up integrating C# anyway. Language mindshare is important.
At least it the C# integration seems decently done.

Finished implementing the command pattern in My First Adventure. Now the same commands are bound to the three sets of directional keys I wanted to use. I also abstracted the player class down to a BaseCharacter so I can use that for other upcoming moving things.
Next thing will be to finish cleaning up my code and making a transition so Dud can go outside.
To be more transparent about server blocks, I have decided to follow the example of others and publish a list: https://github.com/Gargron/mastodon.social-misc/blob/master/README.md
That list is now linked from our about page. It also explains how different block severities work.
You might notice that bofa.lol is on the list. It's at the very least a temporary measure because our mods had to deal with a lot of problematic content coming from that place yesterday.

Working on Dud's home. Got the camera following Dud around (super easy), and starting to come up with an excellent command pattern I can reuse for future stuff.
I'm sure it's already been done, but it's something I specifically want to make for Unity.
Here's Dud exploring his bare shack.
@funkeh ALL developers are real developers. Web developers, developers using "easy languages", developers using visual "drag&drop" tools, professional developers, hobbyist developers...
It's fine is some type of development isn't for you, but don't be a gate keeper and put down others for their choice of tools or methodology.
I'm a game developer working on Rinora.
