There are quite a few undesirable reasons for using linkedin as an actual social media platform, but one that particularly irks me is that while it is a good place to share industry related things (papers, blog posts, techniques etc), there are a lot of people trying to game the system and be perceived as being experts by sharing completely incorrect information confidently. It's gross, and destructive.
I once confronted a mutual who was doing this on a game dev topic. They tried to resist til I dug into details and then they apologized and said I was right. They didn't stop the practice though.
It's a tough job market, but misleading people through made up BS is really, really gross.

@demofox Deleted my account at some point in 2000s as it started sending emails about unexisting private messages to boost engagement, so it was clear that some shady crap will always be going on there.
