To claim that an RPG can't be successful without some kind of connected, live service, shared world experience is just ludicrous.
@raptor85@mastodon.gamedev.place@killyourfm I mean, it's EA, who multiple times has either had from a studio under them or bought out a game series that was leading the market and driving new gameplay innovations, deciding that they know better than the devs that have shown to make an amazing game 5-10 times already and giving it to some cheaper developers and making it more generic, then when that fails blaming lack of interest in that genre/game series/etc. EA's been out of touch since the 90's hit.

@killyourfm It's actually amazing how many franchises they've bought out over the years that were popular enough to easily release as one of the most popular games of the year, even with a half-decent, mediocre game released under it. only for them to just continually sit on it and never do a thing.
