It is honestly both. They are attempting to re-write history, but in a way that they "believe" to be accurate based on what the Orange Shitgibbon and his MAGAt followers say.
It is truly insane when you listen to some of them. Please note that many of them are also closet sovereign citizens and flat earthers... They choose not to believe science and instead choose to believe in an ancient fairy tale that says the exact opposite of what they profess to believe.
