Here is my TOJam 2022 dev thread! Follow along in the game making adventure (or mute it because you aren't interested). This weekend I'll be building a ~fishing game~ for the first time and trying to match the theme "That shouldn't be here."

@torontogamejam@twitter.com

@torontogamejam@twitter.com The official start time is 10:00am but putting together a Trello board doesn't count as starting, right?

@torontogamejam@twitter.com As per the last 2 years, the target audience for my jam game will be my wonderful daughter. Last year I made her "Robot Garage" ryanmiller.itch.io/robot-garag and before that, "Meow Meow Eat" ryanmiller.itch.io/meow-meow-e. It's safe to say that this one will also be mouse/touch controls.

It begins! Let it be known that I'm largely copying the Breath of Fire 3 fishing mini-game, but with touch/mouse controls. I will likely not have time for the fish reeling "fight" features, and end up simplifying that part, and making it easier.

You can now catch - or fail to catch - fish! That's the bare minimum gameplay loop πŸ₯³ Now to make it read well, look good, and add in a bigger loop.

Getting closer to all the core feature stuff being in. Hoping to use as much of Saturday/Sunday as possible on art!

Some cleanup and refactoring so I don't get stuck later. Also added terrain! That's all for tonight.

Starting day 2 off right by implementing beautiful "Illustrated Nature" graphics and audio from the Asset Store.

The river environment came together quickly, too. Good start to the day!

Oh no, found out I was creating new terrains wrong (duplicating the terrain to make a new one doesn't work) and I've lost my previous environments now.

Bet you didn't expect the little spirit to have a car, did you?

This project smells overscoped but it's getting done so..... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Sound effects are in, I really really need to replace the placeholder fish now! Can't believe how quickly this is coming together.

Good morning, it is the final day of the jam!!! 😱

Instead of modelling fish for the fishing game (what? no fish still????) I have added in a fish counter + some tutorial messages for the first scene.

I wasn't prepared for how fun texturing fish would be. Would love to sit and polish, but it's a game jam, so forget that!!! Gotta rig and integrate these little buddies now.

It's a tad early, but the game is up! You can play it!

This morning I built the game to iOS and my daughter loved playing it, therefore, I declare this TOjam an astounding success πŸ₯³

@ryanmiller is that a goatfish? πŸ˜…
Looks amazing! I wish I could do 3D modelling.
