I'm curious how widely known these are.

Are you aware of these text editing behaviours?

- Double click to select a word.
- Double click and drag to select text a whole word at a time.
- Triple click to select a paragraph.

Trivia: the first two were present in the original 1984 Macintosh.

slembcke

@wezm Cursed behavior that has bit me many times: double click drag on Mac/Linux doesn’t select the whitespace after the final word, Windows does.

@slembcke yeah another case of Windows being terrible. Mac OS didn't include the space because applications were expected to handle them for you. From my 90's era Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines:

@slembcke @wezm The Windows behavior is hostile here. But yes this and other inconsistencies between applications and platforms are awful. Another I hate is whether "xxx.yyy" is considered a word or 2 separate words and punctuation (where double clicking the dot won't even select the whole thing 🤬)

@slembcke @wezm don't forget when Windows become clever to expand the selection (e.g., previous word) when you are being precise.
