Our 2024 #emdiplomacy #AdventCalendar offered some glimpses into different #emdiplomats careers by introducing different diplomatic actors.
The #handbook takes a different approach by offering some generalizations. Our authors Sven Externbrink and Magnus Ferber take a closer look on the career paths of #emdiplomats as well as their social, national and educational backgrounds which suggest that the group of offical diplomatic actors in this age appears to be quite homogeneous. Then you don’t know Carl Gyllenborg’s life; it reads like a spy novel, although it began quite ordinary for a Swedish diplomat. Gyllenborg was born as the son of the Swedish politician Count Jacob Gyllenborg. He studied law, latin and history at the university of Uppsala, before he joined the army and fought in the Great Northern War. This is already interesting, as the connection between military experience and expertise and #emdiplomacy is an aspect that needs more attention from research. @penfount Here’s one of my favorites from the 2024 Inkvent calendar. This one definitely a candidate for a full bottle.

Day 8 is Marley, a purple gray with some amazing chromatography with a rose hue and a vivid teal making an appearance.

Swatches are made on Canson, cold press 140lb watercolor paper with a brass Kakimori nib. I’m using a self-inking stamp from Midori that has an oil based ink. My wife spotted this stamp at a Kinokuniya Portland visit.

The top of the swatch has a stamped pattern for recording the name of the ink and other details. There’s a small ink bottle shape with the label section colored in with the ink. There are also 4 types of nibs to indicate the best nib to use. The options shown are felt tip, brush tip, dip pen (a glass style one is illustrated), and a fountain pen nib. The bottom of the swatch has a square patch of ink. Water has been added and you can see vivid teal and rose tones in the purple gray ink. The very bottom of the square is distressed a little. A quote is written in above the square. It reads: “Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail.”, Dickens
