I really dislike #streaks in apps, be it #gaming, educational or others. As long as the streak is going it's fine. But loosing a long streak, tends to really put me off the app. I just don't like using it anymore, because every time the streak is shown, I just get reminded of the streak I lost. There is apps, that I just will not use on the weekends and then start with a 0 streak every week. :-( I wish every app that used streaks would also offer a way to turn them off. #babbel #duolingo

My Journey into Spanish

Learning Spanish: As a beginner, I’ve been primarily using Duolingo and occasionally Dots for a change in pace. I’m eventually planning to transition more to Babbel, and when I’m more comfortable with vocabulary and basic grammar, I’m planning to go to Pimsleur (will also look more into Memrise and Teuida as well.)

Read. Learn. Grow.

I don’t think that the #Duolingo s and #Babbel s of this passive App-le-World offer a path to wisdom. It’s time to share and qualify free works for self study. And qualify self study for education.

I’ll try Latin and Italian. Then link the science books to #openaccess items. Ever heard of #ivanIllich, ABC, vineyard of the text, Hugh of Saint Victor, #Didascalicon, science-by-people?

Can anyone express an informed opinion about some new / great ways for a Canadian to learn some Italian? I used Rosetta Stone many years ago for some very basic "tourist Italian", but would like to prepare a little more for an upcoming trip. It seems Babbel is the leader these days, but I wonder if there's something hiding in the bushes. I should add-- it really needs to be self paced, and I don't want to mess around with free approaches (I'm too old to figure some of that out, or risk getting something wrong), so DuoLingo may not be an option (but I might be convinced). #italianlanguage #languagelearning #languages #babbel #rosettastone #duolingo

For traveling, I like to be able to order off the menu in the native language. I got sick of #Duolingo's gamification and tried #Pimsleur for French. That's what I'd use if I were spending significant time there: Pimsleur is hard but no nonsense. I'm now on #Babbel but it's even easier than Duolingo and doesn't feel like I'm advancing at all. I might go back to Duolingo and submit to the gamification. Thoughts?

Just purchased a lifetime deal on #Babbel and received this:

"Your 1200-month subscription will renew automatically on 21 Feb 2124 at the regular price of US$ 0.01 billed every 1200 months. If you would like to cancel your subscription, please do so before 21 Feb 2124."

Already regretting not holding out for 2124 prices.

Was meint ihr?

@alexhaydock @fullfathomfive I've found #Babbel really good for both Spanish (beginner - advanced) & German (beginner). But it is expensive so definitely keep an eye out for half-price deals. They pop up every once in a while on their website. Also if you're likely to use it long-term for multiple languages, they have a lifetime sub which is good value when their half-price sales happen.
