Confused about where trash goes? This workshop feels you
In this week's issue of our environmental newsletter, we learn about a recycling workshop that engages people with joy and humour, look at why eastern monarch butterflies had a good year, and check out plans to plant millions of trees from local seeds in N.W.T.

A kaleidoscope of butterflies for #WorldButterflyDay. It’s also #PiDay so I feel this the symmetries of this print which I laid out with a compass and some geometric tricks, seems apt.

There are three each of the orange Isabella’s Longwings (Nymphalidae Eueides isabella), three yellow Eastern tiger swallowtails (Papilio glaucus), and three blue Red-Spotted Purples (Limenitis arthemis astyanax) in this #linocut kaleidoscope.⠀

Monarch butterflies are hanging on by a thread; the two migratory populations of the butterfly east of the Rocky Mountains and in California have declined dramatically over the past quarter century. Thanks to a decade-long campaign they were formally proposed for protection under the Endangered Species Act!

Please join me in sending a message to Fish and Wildlife Service urging it to finalize ESA protections for the Monarch.

Center for Food SafetyHelp me save the monarchs!Monarch butterflies are in grave danger. Thanks to CFS, they're now up for Endangered Species Act protections. Can you send a message to FWS urging it to finalize its proposal, protect monarchs from pesticide spraying, and establish enough critical habitat for recovery?

Here's one of the few North American butterflies whose numbers are actually increasing: The Gulf Fritillary, Dione incarnata (previously known as Agraulis incarnata, or Dione vanillae, or Agraulis vanillae, taxonomists are awful, this thing doesn't even eat vanilla anyway) #butterflies #Dione #Insects
