Just a heads-up that I noticed the domain csscrim.es seems unregistered.

Did this "Frog blast the vent core" while I was on Cohost using the logo generator. (https://cohost-logo.jkap.io/)
While I’m here and still unable to sleep— is anyone a previous Cohost user? This reminds me of my early Cohost days when I was fumbling around trying to find people to follow.
My spouse and I found a little Cohost easter egg in Wanderstop! Very unexpected but cute.
I wonder if anyone else has come across it?
i think i might've posted about it on #cohost back when that was a thing but i don't think i've explained it here.
i think if i could rework the way keyboard shortcuts work on computers, i'd replace Ctrl
, Super
, and Alt
with COM
, APP
, and SUB
.
COM
is short for "command" and "computer." it's for system-wide shortcuts only. the operating system would actually enforce this. COM
on its own would be for shortcuts are available on most devices, which are defined by a standard. COM
+ SUB
would be for platform-specific system-wide shortcuts, such as if gnome added a "meow" keyboard shortcut. COM
+ APP
and COM
+ APP
+ SUB
are for user-defined macros only.APP
is for application-level shortcuts only. applications (such as browsers) would actually enforce this. APP
+ SUB
would be equivalent to how Alt
is conventionally used in real life.SUB
is for sub-application level shortcuts. there'd be nothing physically stopping apps from using it for other things, but conventionally it's supposed to just not do anything if sub-application shortcuts aren't a thing in a particular application. sub-application level is things like websites and roblox games which might have their own keyboard shortcuts but also run inside an app that has its own keyboard shortcuts.you could still combine Shift
with any of these for more combinations.
i think this would be intuitive and make sure that keyboard shortcuts never conflict ever again.
feel free to use this for stuff i guess.
#Cohost loved this image. I love it too! I felt like a kid again, drawing this.

i'm so happy i learned about https://rss-bridge.org/. it really is the best tool i've found for pulling posts from places with no rss or terrible rss (*cough* bsky *cough*) into a rss feed.
one of my favorite things about @cohost was how i could have good long form writing, short form shitposts, and art all in one feed. i wasn't really able to replicate that before with rss, but now with rss-bridge in my toolkit, i've done it.
I made this for the Artist Alley on #Cohost. I miss Cohost.

You can tell I used to be on #cohost because any time a toot gets any amount of attention I still think "oh man, this is doing severals!"
oh yeah.. i had an idea this morning: like.. do you know how #cohost was kinda different? has anyone coined a term for that yet? how about #slocial ? as in slow social, as opposed to fast social (media)?
another thought was "barely social"... but i didnt dare portmonteauing that one... for reasons... so uh, maybe yet another protocol for social media but for people who dont share much?
there should be a clear anti-ai stance somewhere and i think part of slocial and therefore barely social could be that it's based on a peer to peer net of trust? something something bad idea since i know like 5 people in person... sounds horribly boring... anyway do as you wish with these thoughts... idk gotta go, make dinner...
Lovers of #CSS and #boardgames (so, a lot of #cohost alums), check out VirtualTabletop.io! It's a completely free and open source board game simulator using JSON and CSS!
Here's a board I made for Homeworlds, with SVG pyramids that can be recolored by changing one line of CSS :3
Farewell Cohost
Originally drew this and posted it on Cohost in September, right before the site went read-only. Now that 2024 has ended, the site is effectively no more, and now redirects to the internet archive. It's tragic that we lost the one really good social media site I knew of. I'm sure missing it. Hopefully it won't be too long before its spiritual successor shows up.
RIP Cohost.
#cohost is now redirecting to the internet archive
I think of this post every time; it will live in my brain rent-free for eternity #cohost
is there already a #cohost archive reader?
