#Numismatics - I found a penny on the silty trail during my hike this morning. It was very dirty, making me think it could be old. I put it in my pocket, rinsed it off when I got home, and dried it with half of a paper towel. It was not old and the half paper towel I used to dry it cost 2 cents. #CoinCollecting

At the end of March this year, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, autonomous countries in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, will introduce their own currency: The Caribbean Guilder: coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n0

This won't be new news to those who closely read my post on the 2010 Netherlands Antilles 10 Cents, as the new currency got a mention there as well: coinofnote.com/2010-netherland

I missed the earlier article in last week's E-Sylum (there's a link in the post) but here is the second article on "AI Book slop". There is a saying: "Buy the book before the coin". Meaning, get a good reference and learn about what you are interested in before buying coins. THAT is good advice, but it is disappointing that AI is now being used to swindle collectors when they try to buy books: coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n0

Last week's poll was interesting - I did expect more non-circulating collectors - but the results are in:
Total: 7 Votes (Thank you those people!)
86% Circulating Coins
14% Both, but more non-circulating

I didn't vote in my own poll (what is the etiquette with that? Should I have?), but would have to say "Both but more circulating" - there are some interesting non-circulation coins out there, and I could not say I don't have any of them :)

I saw the Royal Australian Mint share this on another platform and since they're not here, I'm nicking it :)

On this day in 1794, the first sitting of the United States Senate opened to the public. With the order this week to stop production of the US Cent, I thought one of those would be just the piece to share.

So, from 63 years after that first senate sitting, and 168 years ago, here is another contentious cent - the 1857 "Flying Eagle" cent: coinofnote.com/1857-usa-cent/

On this day 400 years ago, the city of New Amsterdam was incorporated. Thanks to the band "They Might Be Giants", I instantly know that New Amsterdam is now called, New York.

Here is their song "Istanbul (not Constantinople): youtube.com/watch?v=0XlO39kCQ-

And here is my Byzantine Follis I managed to squeeze in a reference to that song: coinofnote.com/518-27-justin-i

Today in 1864, the Second Schleswig War started when Prussian forces crossed the border into Schleswig. That was the impetus for my own ancestors to leave the area (They were Danish & not keen to become German) to move to the other side of the world. This 1856 16 Skilling Rigsmønt from #Denmark was one of the first coins I wrote a little about for the site: coinofnote.com/1856-denmark-16
