The story you've heard is pure baloney, historical revisionism designed to cover the asses of those who screwed up, royally.
What *actually* happened was the Executive VP of Engineering, Weapons Division accidentally invited a Rebel commander to a private group chat, and then posted the plans for the Death Star to the group.

@Arapalla @world_beauty The crazy thing is that we got to see Mimas up close *after* Star Wars had come out in the theaters. It appeared in National Geographic's July 1981 issue. As a kid, I was stunned that there was a natural "Death Star" out there!
