I am of the opinion that this was the perfect #Discman form factor. Of course the internals needed improving, but as far as looks go, this was the best.

Man CD players still amaze me. This mechanism is in a Sony #Discman D-15 from 1988. It still tracks this terribly made CD perfectly thanks to the floating laser assembly and can even rock the entire laser carrier back and forth if needed. So cool.

A very good friend hooked me up with this absolutely drop dead gorgeous #Sony #Discman D-15 from 1988. It starts up and works fine at first on track 1 but after about 45 sec it looses tracking and no longer works. I can restart track 1 and I get about 45 sec again. This mechanism has 2 common failure points. The middle gear lube turns into glue, this also makes that gear super brittle. Also the “screw” that moves the assembly can dry out. I ordered a new gear, will clean it all up, replace the gear and re-lube everything. Hopefully that fixes it. I also have a slot loading 20th anniversary Discman that works great after it got some TLC. #VintageAudio
