What was my favourite childhood book?

Replying to: What was your favourite childhood book?

“The Boy Next Door” by Enid Blyton. It is not a great work of fiction but it was the book that my mother gave to me that got me into reading. The Boy Next Door is also the probable genesis of my desire to start writing.

I read every Enid Blyton book I could get my hands on when I was young. Enough so that my love of reading and stories masked my dyslexia well into adult life by giving me the skills I needed to overcome a lot of dyslexia’s reading and writing drawbacks. I still struggle with spelling and probably always will but that’s what computers are for.

Every time I see an American news story starting with the word "Conservatives", I mentally replace that with the words "The naughty little pixies who were abandoned at birth by their parents" -- The stories usually make much more sense then.
