Reading a paper about cloth moth evolution. Really interesting!

At the end of the intro, they hypothesize co-evolution between humans and synanthropic moths. Well, that sounds very unlikely but ok I guess?

Like, recent adaptations maybe, but co-evolution seems a bit extreme.

Also I would expect it to be only in the moth, it sounds unlikely that there would be any impact on human evolution besides cultural practices...

tell people who doubt #evolution:

"look at your feet

you can't tell me that didn't used to be a hand. why the fuck can you wiggle your toes? what the fuck are even your toes? yeah yeah balance, gait, etc- that's just making what you got work. which is obviously something that until very recently was a hand, that is now halfway to turning into a hoof or pad or some tripod thing in another couple million years. it's not an #intelligentDesign! the human foot is fucking stupid"

#Evolution #Neuroscience #Cognition - Crows recognize geometric regularity - "The crows exhibited a geometric regularity effect, showing better performance with shapes featuring right angles, parallel lines, or symmetry over more irregular shapes. This performance advantage did not require learning. Our findings suggest that geometric intuitions are not specific to humans but are deeply rooted in biological evolution." - Philipp Schmidbauer et al., Crows recognize geometric regularity.Sci. One had just lost a job because of a canceled govt grant; the other feared a similar fate if they went ahead w/the paper. Although both were legally in the #US, they worried they might lose their residency if their names appeared on a potentially *controversial* article.

The subject: #evolution.

I have just skimmed the book 'Gathering Moss' by #RobinWallKimmerer (searched something for my moss podcast episode) and am amazed at how much you can take away from moss evolution for today's political situation. Evolution speaks much for diverse, resisting, and adaptive communities.
