Heute vor 25 Jahren wurde die künstliche Verschlechterung ("selective availability") der GPS-Signale abgeschaltet. Damit war auch für zivile GPS-Empfänger eine Genauigkeit auf wenige Meter möglich.
Was folgte ist eine Revolution: Autonavis, Video-Drohnen, Geocaching, Free-Floating Sharing von Autos/Fahrrädern/Scootern und noch vieles mehr wäre ohne genaues GPS nicht möglich.

Do you remember traveling with a paper map in hand? It feels like such a relic of the 20th century now. I still have a stack of those tucked away in a cabinet above my desk—just in case I ever need them again. Do gas stations along the road even sell those anymore? Back then, you had to study the map carefully before starting a trip and pull it out at every stop to stay on track. It wasn’t too challenging, but missing a turn could cause real headaches. Nowadays, cars come equipped with built-in navigation systems that guide you seamlessly from start to finish. And if your car doesn’t have one, your phone can easily step in and do the job. Oh, and let’s not forget my old Garmin GPS—it's been collecting dust on top of my desk cabinet for years now.

In other news, the #meshtastic node I have been carrying all week has behaved swimmingly.
Battery life is around 11 hours, maybe 12.
Its a #heltecv3 with a cheap serial GPS (which seems to take forever to get a lock on power up). Amazon delivered me 1000 2n2222s and 2 ublox GPS units to the house today, which I'll use to set up some powersave features and switch the #GPS on/off via meshtastic's enable/disable function. Should extend battery life a couple more hours, at least.
I hope.
There's a few things I wish Meshtastic did automatically, like automatically switching to the correct subtopic for #MQTT based on GPS, so I don't have to manually switch from msh/US/XX to msh/US/YY when I land or take off.
Look for AWED in the air, or on the ground, if you are wanting to see if you can ping me. I try to answer all messages with confirmations. I view that like #QSLing.
Anyway, now that I've got another 2 hour wait in this frelling airport, I'm going to get some reading done.

Ahora tenemos un celular arrancado lo mas limpio posible. Este proceder, ademas de dar tremenda tranquilidad, es mucho mas seguro y mas rápido que ir desinstalando APP's y elementos.
Siguiente paso muy importante es ir a:
.. e ir revisando aplicación por aplicación de google y proveedores de mas, inclusive #chrome (!), y seleccionar en cada APP las opciones "parar" y "desactivar".
Eventualmente conviene dejar #googleMaps, la unica APP justificable debido al servicio que brinda. Por cierto, google maps puede ser reemplazado por #OSM -> open street map.
Importante tener siempre el GPS apagado y decirle a todas las APP's ¡que no significa NO! cuando mencionan #GPS. Las pocas veces que realmente se precisa, por ejemplo con googleMaps, se activa en el momento y se apaga en el momento.

Para ello ahora si se puede activar el WIFI y/o insertar la tarjeta SIM al celular.
F-Droid es el repositorio de #APP's comparable con el #playStore de #google pero del mundo del #softwareLibre.
Todos las APP's son gratuito.
Todas las APP's tienen un apartado que informa, si es que sea preciso:
"Advertencia, puede que partes de esta APP no te gusten".
Es importante leer estos detalles siempre, aunque bien despreocupado, ya que esto son advertencias de puritanos mormones del mundo del software libre, los que por suerte existen, los imprescindibles del mundo de la computación. Leer este apartado enseña los detalles importantes en las APP's que hacen la diferencia y que de a poco nos crean un sentido común al respecto.

Tenes prácticamente todas las APP's pero #KISS:

.. ya que son gratis y hechas por idealistas.
Nada de propaganda.
Nada de venderte la mas nueva actualización que no aporta nada nuevo pero hace obsoleto la compatibilidad y genera ingreso a "ellos" sin brindar valor agregado real.
Lo que se encuentra en f-droid son simplemente aplicaciones pequeñas para que se pueda hacer lo que en realidad uno pretendía hacer.
En otras palabras, sin #enshittification, como diría @pluralistic.
Ay una APP en el f-droid que se llama #auroraStore. Ella da accesso al playStore de google sin registrarse y se puede instalar prácticamente todas las APP's que se pretende. Cosa que no se recomienda en absoluto, ya que prácticamente todas las aplicaciones del playstore que no están también en f-droid tienen fines comerciales y venden los datos de sus usuarios.
Es común que APP's de soporte para hardware o de servicios solo se encuentran en el playstore, por lo que si es útil tener dicho acceso.
Otra opción para acceder a APP's del playstore es por ejemplo el sitio:

Este sitio permite bajar APP's que figuran en el playStore, ademas de la opción mas que interesante de acceder a versiones mas antiguas de una APP.

The trickiest thing about going to a place you’ve never been before is to orientate oneself and work out where to begin. Here, a little help from #GPS and #OnlineMaps did come in handy but after that, it was back to analogue hardware – a #map and a #compass.
Starting on the road by around 9 am, there was a #footpath that led up the side of the valley into a #wood. In the #MorningLight, the #trees were illuminated by nicely.

The NEO6 module from Ali didn't have support for an active antenna so I bodged in a 50nH inductor. The module has an internal decoupling cap according to the integration manual. It works - the 1PPS led started flashing! #GPS #Development
