🌎 Coscoroba swan (Coscoroba coscoroba)

The coscoroba swan is a medium-sized water bird native to southern South America, found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the Falkland Islands. It has a distinctive appearance with a white body, black wingtips, and a bright pink-red bill. Unlike true swans, coscoroba swans have fully feathered faces and can walk more efficiently due to their leg placement. These graceful birds are social and often seen in pairs or flocks. No subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Alopochen aegyptiaca (Egyptian goose / Nilgans)

An aegyptian goose on a lawn with three tiny goslings hiding their heads under their parent’s wings in order to conserve warmth. The adult goose holds its wings wide and low in a protective manner.

Moose Jaw famously has *swans* in a creek in a park in the middle of town. I don't think I ever saw a pelican in Moose Jaw, but I could be wrong. I went to school there.

By the way, swans look great and peaceful and majestic and all, but they are Not To Be Trifled With at the best of times. They're up there with Canada geese.

1000+ geese hanging out at the lake, waiting for the ice to melt. They make quite a racket at night. So what is that honking about? I’ve heard that the honking they do while in flight is transmitting formation data to each other. Is it socialization or could it even be that honking keeps them warm?
