InfoseepageOne last thing I did today was check out these stone townhouses designed by Augustus Pugin. He's famous for the design of Westminster Palace and Big Ben's Clocktower in London. He also did St Aidan's Cathedral in Enniscorthy, which I visited earlier this trip. His son Edward Pugin continued his father's work and was one of the designers of St Colman's Cathedral in Cobh, which I posted about the other day. These days, it's an upscale bar named J.J. InfoseepageBarryscourt has been closed for the best part of a decade for a extensive revamp/restoration of the site, after which it is hoped to make it into somewhat of a draw for the area. The castle website is anticipating a reopening sometime this spring. I found the site thoroughly gated with crews still hard at work inside, but could appreciate the main tower. That facility makes, among other things, every bottle of Jameson sold worldwide.Didn't show up in time to take the tour, but took in the giant pot still outside.
