#Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew welcomed an 18-nation strong trade delegation from the #EU, headed by Germany. They are interested in the deep water port near Churchill, #MB, minerals, and 'Green Energy'

In the process of porting my MPW C program to CodeWarrior; I'm now past the easy part of "need to fix missing header files and rename old toolbox calls" and into the need-to-read-a-book parts of "C doesn't have a concept of booleans so what does this compiler expect" and how to make pointers to functions work kind of stuff...

They're constructing a new tunnel in our city (because Just One More Lane will finally fix traffic), and since this is #Japan, of course they had to create a character for the tunnel boring machine, シールドどん (Shieldon), that you can see when you follow the status their web site

It seems likely he will be removed if this election plays out as the current conservative pollsters are pushing: they are clearly pushing the narrative of "if not #CPC, then #LPC at any cost!"

Which I find extremely telling. Do we really want to elect Angus Reid's second choice after #PP?

Reality is: most #BC and #AB ridings are more likely to elect #NDP or CPC than LPC. This may be true in #SK & #MB, and elsewhere. We need clean data from the sources, not Fournier's weighted model.

And my second #MARCHintosh is over! Another great year!

My stated goals were
1. Release TalkCrawler
2. Rewrite the networking in GlobalTalk Chat
3. Recap a IIvi/IIcx to replace my PB540 as router

An unstated goal was
4. To get a printer on #GlobalTalk

I completed 1 in time for March 1, and 2 by the middle of the month, 2 felt like redemption for something that felt like failure last year. Never had the time/desk space for 3, but maybe that'll be a good post-March project? #mb… (1/5)

One thing some of us have been playing with on #GlobalTalk this #MARCHintosh is LACS, an AppleTalk chat system

But LACS isn't just another chat app - it's deep Apple lore. LACS started out at Apple as "RumorMonger", an experiment in decentralized chat. But this was back when Apple was heavily dysfunctional, full of project fiefdoms and yearly layoffs, so an anonymous bullhorn like this could really go crazy, leading to it spreading like wildfire.

This explains the sternly-worded dialog...

Article Rumor Monger was a non-attributed (anonymous) chat system developed by Harry Chesley in Apple's Advanced Technology Group. Originally, the project was focused on peer-to-peer, decentralized chat, using an epidemic distribution algorithm originally developed at Xerox PARC. The ability to post anonymous messages being just one minor feature. But as usage spread around Apple, it quickly became clear that the combination of easy access (Rumor Monger was left running in the background on user's machine, and was thus just a click away) plus anonymity created a unique social space. Essentially, there was no barrier between thinking something and posting it on Rumor Monger. This led to two things: First, an unprecedentedly low level of "intelligent" content. And second, posting of thoughts that previously would have been kept strictly internal: everything from insults to harassment to company criticism to really bad haggis jokes. (In fairness, at least one group also saw it as a way to brainstorm project design ideas.) Apple management panicked, seeing visions of harassment suits, and tried to "turn it off." But, being a good, decentralized system, it was essentially impossible to switch off.

This is the "emergency vintage Mac rig" I pulled together in order to rush TalkCrawler out the door in time for #MARCHintosh . All of the development was done in this position (well, some was done in bed), giving me a back ache in the process.

Today I'm finally going to take the time to upgrade my setup to something more sustainable, maybe if I do that, I can start on my GlobalTalk Chat rewrite project!

I picked up an ImageWriter II for cheap, it was the only one where the auction photos didn't have the error lamp on.

Alas, the belt drive motor is rusted and completely seized. Looks like replacements are also not at all worth it.

It's a shame, this is the only spot in the whole machine with evidence of rust, the rest looks fine!

Today was spent helping a friend migrate his video editing business' 164 TiB (22 drives!) #TrueNAS rig from CORE to SCALE. The automated migration worked well, but then I got to spend a few hours setting up docker containers for everything that was running in FreeBSD Jails before.

All around a big boost in performance going from #FreeBSD to #Linux. Doubled network speeds (10 Gbit adapter) and 30% faster loading for their ridiculously bloated WordPress page.
