However, I am curious: is it just another XMPP client, or does it offer unique features that set it apart? Generally, I prefer les feature-rich clients because I often use just simple text and voice communication. For my personal use case, XMPP is fine when it is compatible with TTS (Text-to-Speech). You're right that IRC and XMPP have their strengths, but I am always on the lookout for tools that I can offer to regular users.</p><p><a href="https://hear-me.social/tags/Signal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Signal</span></a> and Session are both backed by single entities but prioritize user privacy. Personally, I don't have enough experience to delve deeply into the pros and cons of Signal and Session. A significant limitation of Signal is that I can't build the app from source code, and as far as I know, there is no real way to run it on a server OS—it's only available on iOS, Android, and via Waydroid on Linux, with wayland GUI. At least Session is working on x86 architectures. In general, I think both are useful for mainstream users due to their familiar interfaces and ease of use. While Signal and Session do a good job with privacy, they may not be the most secure options, and they certainly don't rank high on the Free Software scale. Would you agree with my evaluation, or could you elaborate on your criticism?</p><p><a href="https://hear-me.social/tags/Matrix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Matrix</span></a> is designed to be decentralized and open, allowing users to host their own servers. This decentralization provides greater control over data and enhances privacy. I know a lot of people here on the Fediverse like and even prefer it to other platforms like Matrix, but it just doesn’t work reliably for me. Not years ago and not now. :gutkato_disokula:</p><p>I just opened the XMPP client on my other device, navigated to a public room (group chat) I’m a part of, and the last three days’ worth of messages didn’t show up. Why? I don’t know. :gutkato_averto:</p><p>This room’s information says it should be ‘Persistent’ and ‘Archiving’. Maybe the messages are archived, but not shared to all of the room members’ devices. Maybe the room needs an extra setting to do that. Or maybe it already does that, but only if the client and the server both support XMPP Extension number 4,872 (Self-Propagating Persistent Messages, version 2). :gutkato_ŝultrumas:</p><p>It could just be this one room. It could be that the there are better clients that would inform me about this missing feature, but this one doesn’t. В августе 2024 года Роскомнадзор ограничил доступ к Signal в связи с нарушениями, которые позволяют использовать приложение в злоумышленнических целях.</p><p>Второе место аналитики отдали французскому мессенджеру <a href="https://www.olvid.io/en/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Olvid</a> с уникальной архитектурой zero-trust, не требующей номер телефона или e-mail при регистрации. WhatsApp добавили в рейтинг благодаря протоколу Signal и шифрованию по умолчанию, но в связи с принадлежностью к Meta✴ были обнаружены возможные каналы утечки метаданных о пользователях.</p><p>Исследователи определили несколько тенденций на рынке защищенных коммуникаций, существующих в 2025 году. Во-первых, была отмечена деанонимизация стандартных платформ, поскольку мессенджеры стали чаще сотрудничать с правоохранительными органами, что привело к миграции пользователей на альтернативные сервисы. С другой стороны, эксперты отметили значительный рост ценности приватности среди пользователей.</p><p>Как сообщают в SafeTech Group, мошенники предпочитают использовать для своих схем самые популярные мессенджеры. When there's an electric blackout (this is <a href="https://rukii.net/tags/Spain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Spain</span></a> after all), all the pods go down. But what happens with Postgres is that the replicas go into a process to sync and elect a new master, and this takes time.</p><p>Meanwhile, the pgpool will give successful database connections to apps in pods, but only read-only.</p><p>What happens with an app like <a href="https://rukii.net/tags/Matrix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Matrix</span></a> <a href="https://rukii.net/tags/Synapse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Synapse</span></a> is that I think it gets database connections in a pool at start-up, and as it succeeds, it just continues. However, when it actually tries to make updates and inserts, it will get errors, but now it will only log them; they aren't fatal. Or would log them unless the logs were by default off because of privacy and security.</p><p>The initial read-only database connections are never upgraded to read-write because the application doesn't expect this kind of a failure, even when the new master is chosen.</p><p>Meanwhile the Matrix server continues in a highly degraded mode without being able to persist messages sent. It will only be able to relay them to currently connected online clients. This leads to users getting diverging views to the messages on channels.</p><p>I solved this by adding an initContainer to check for read-write connection to Postgres before the Synapse pod start-up, but it's a hack.</p><p><a href="https://rukii.net/tags/SelfHosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHosting</span></a></p>
