Ars Technica: Microsoft’s new AI “Copilot for Gaming” struggles to justify its existence. “…Microsoft is announcing that it will roll out ‘Copilot for Gaming’ as an ‘ultimate gaming sidekick’ that will be available via mobile app preview for Xbox Insiders starting in April. 🤔 Übersetzungsfehler oder Insider-Gag? Der KI-Assistent #MicrosoftCopilot kann mit vier verschiedenen Stimmen antworten. Ich kapiere bis heute nicht, ob hinter den komischen Namen eine falsche Tastenbelegung oder ein schräger Gedanke steckt. Bei Google findet man nix dazu, und nicht mal #Copilot selbst kann die Frage beantworten. Weiß jemand mehr?

Just installed an update to Windows 10.

It installed frelling CO-PILOT.

We immediately uninstalled it.

Machine learning has its place for science (e.g., climate modelling), for accessibility (e.g., understanding spoken language to make better subtitles, and other such pro-social endeavours.

It does NOT have a place in our fracking operating system.

We'll have none of that AI-branded (but actually not AI) nonsense. Thanks but no: just, no.

Probably fewer people affected over here, but Microsoft is pushing a big price jump in Office subscriptions because the standard tier is gaining Copilot.

But there's now a "same features as before (so no GenAI)" tier that you can downgrade to.

It's not like Netflix hiking prices and introducing ads on a cheaper tier at the old price. It's effectively a forced upgrade with the old tier now under a different name that you've got to go through the unsubscribe process before you can downgrade to it!

Bluesky Social · James Coruscanti Diner III (@adillondev.bsky.social)Microsoft is going to price gouge you by adding their genAI to your subscription without your consent, and they are not transparent about how to avoid this bullshit.
