That's not in dispute. But he's also a spoiled brat, thinks the rules shouldn't apply to him, and when he gets tagged, he gets all pissy and whiny about it all.

Seeing him seethe in the driver cooldown room was bril. Shame he killed the vibe on the podium celebration.

(I am not a Max fan).

You're not better than Martin Brundle.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

An update on my mid life crisis car. Turns out, it's not a mid life crisis car, but a mid life CELEBRATION car. (there's a thread on this, over on threads: https://www.threads.net/@coffeegeeker/post/DHdf9gJRdEq)

Also did something I haven't done in 20+ years: I waxed a car. Things sure have changed tho. Last time I waxed a car it took over an hour. This time? 15 mins, including the pre-bath. Crazy! Used Hybrid Solutions' Wet Ceramic Wax spray bottle for the trick. Wash car (5 min), spray ceramic wax on wet car, a panel at a time. Wipe dry, then quick buff. That took 10 minutes, front to back.

Here's the RHD Mazda MX-5 (I still can't believe I got this for $10K CAD), a 20 year old NC model, out in Victoria's glorious sunshine today after its cleaning.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

Midlife Crisis Achievement: unlocked.

The first "fun" car I've owned in my lifetime. They've all been sensible and practical til now. But I am true to my Scottish roots, and I've been frugal. This car cost me less tha a new La Marzocco GS3 espresso machine. Now I just need to lose 25lbs to fit in the darned thing. 😎

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

Any monitor experts out there?

I'm thinking about going back to dual 27" 4k monitors for my desktop mac setup (currently using a Dell S3423DWC wide curved monitor, but I'm not happy with the resolution / blurriness of it with a Mac).

My current plan is to buy ONE Dell Ultrasharp 27" 4K, the U2723QE model with the awesome full featured USB-C hub in it. That would be my main photo editing monitor. And I'd pair it up with the much less expensive Dell 27" 4K S2722QC monitor, which I'd use for writing, research work, coding, etc.

So my question: these are obviously different monitors with different quality in the screen, though both are 4K. Any challenges or issues I should be considering using these with an Mac Mini M4?

My plan is to hook up the Ultrasharp to one of my Thunderbolt ports, but where I'm hazy is should I a) daisy chain the other monitor to the Ultrasharp's USB-C downstream, or b) hook up the second monitor to the Mac Mini's available HDMI port instead? I'm concerned about the USB-C hub's bandwidth on the Ultrasharp.

Also, I like controlling things via the mac's keyboard (screen brightness, etc). I run an app called Monitor Control to do this with my current setup. I assume I can use it with the new monitors, but don't know how it works with a dual monitor setup.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

Does anyone else put music directly on their smart watches (in my case, a Galaxy Watch 5), to listen to music wirelessly, without an internet connection, on the go with bluetooth headphones or a bluetooth speaker?

Just recently discovered this, and it's pretty liberating. No phone needed! Normally when I go on a long walk, I feel I need to take my phone so I have access to music. Now I have 5gb of mp3 files right on my watch, and can leave the phone at home.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

I mostly like the idea and concept of the term "creators". But some days, I really don't.

You see, actual content creators didn't need that term for millennia of content creation, from writing books, to carving statues, to painting, etching, carving, to creating tapestries, to writing poetry, to performing a play, to publishing a newspaper, to reviewing products, to taking photographs... and so on and so on.

Only when people started doing 3 minute vertical videos, wearing bust-enhancing exposed shirts, starting off with "HEY GUYS...." while pimping some butt acne removal cream (they get a kickback on) that "HONESTLY GUYS, this changed my life!!!!" ...

Did people start calling themselves creators.

Kinda reminds me of the term "vegan leather", to describe the plastic, vinyl, fossil fuel laden crap cheaply used to do fake leather on books, clothes, and bags. A pretty wrap.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

Looks like I got our account on Threads shadowbanned. It's no longer showing up in people's "For You" feeds much.

I guess I chose to like too many posts that were critical of Zuck and his stupid "masculine energy" rants.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

James Donaldson (aka Mr. Beast)'s dead-eye, fake smile always triggers a reaction from me: I want to punch him in the face. And I seriously am not a violent guy, but there's something about that vacant stare, ultra-fake smile that makes me want to... yeah, punch him in the face.

Well, it turns out that dead-eye, fake smile was possibly engineered for an algorithm. And specifically to trigger my own reaction as well as many others. (this post on Threads has some info https://www.threads.net/@jasonkpargin/post/DEppXl2xgxh)

I have not watched a single Mr. Beast youtube video in my life, but have seen him covered by other channels, so I see the kind of content and bullshit he delivers. And I've read more than a few articles on him and what he does.

Just more manipulation to fuck around with us all.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

I have to admit, I still love doing web development and design. Been doing it since... omg, 1997 when I coded my first HTML page.

Been re-working our Snapshot Review article design. Went from this wireframe (first image) to this (second screen cap) in the last few days.

As someone very aptly pointed out to me a month ago, our "Snapshot Reviews" aren't very snapshot-ty. 😎

So I went back the drawing board, putting most of the info site readers are looking for first... right at the top sections.

Plus we're shortening the reviews - substantially - going forward. This is also so our senior blog contributors can start writing reviews, something they've been chomping at the bit to do.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

So has there been any progress on how Mastodon handles url cards? I note now that youtube blocks all url cards (at least on our instance, and I assume on many others) just delivering a generic, front of site result.

This is a major problem that needs to be fixed, on the fediverse side of things.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

Sad to hear about the passing of Jimmy Carter today. My forever-lasting image of this person is of him, (and Rosalynn Carter), building houses as part of the Habitat for Humanity project. He set the standard for what US Presidents could do after their term is done. Some have tried to emulate it since, none have matched his contributions to the good of all.

RIP, Mr. Carter.

CoffeeGeek
#NCP

Bought a LOT of stuff this past 12 months: new camera gear, lighting, lots of coffee and espresso gear and accessories, new headphones, a MacBook Air 15" M3...

but these Soundcore Select Go 4s might just be the most satisfying and literally best bang for the buck items out of everything. I still can't believe these were under $30 each (they go as low as $22 in the US). Fantastic speakers, amazing sound, long battery life, pair seamlessly (incl. for stereo sound).

I don't know how they did it at this price. They are bass monsters, but the sound is absolutely amazing, clear, "crisp", and room filling (especially in stereo pair mode). Battery lasts forever.

I bought six of them to give as Christmas gifts, as well.
