Monday saw me getting out of the house to head over to the Union Bay Natural Area at the University of Washington campus.

We're at the height of migration season now, and the Natural Area is a good place to do some birding.  So I spent a pleasant couple of hours wandering around with the camera, soaking up some much appreciated sun, capturing what I could of the birds I saw.  And not just birds!  Plenty of rabbits and turtles were doing their thing and stayed still long enough to get their photo taken.  The geese and ducks have young now too, in their adorable fluffy phase.

In all, I saw:

Wood Ducks
Anna's Hummingbirds
Canada Geese
Song Sparrows
Osprey
Red-winged Blackbirds
Mallards
Dark-eyed Junco
and, of course, Crows (or possibly Ravens)

I'm particularly happy with the shot I got of the hummingbird, freezing its wings in mid flight.  :)

April 19 - 27 was National Parks Week in the US and I'd intended to post this then, but life kind of got away from me.  Nevertheless!  I'm a fan of the Parks Service, as might be obvious, and believe their mission to "preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations" is important.

Spring and maternity shoots do seem to be a natural match, especially when the sun breaks through and the beach is calling.

They're whale-y excited to see their little one later this year! :D
