" 200 or so, countries world-wide, and they only include terms and cite laws, that they know apply to them. "
So many corporate simps ignore this little fact.

Do you see Proton cite terms for Japan or Korea, or any other friendly nation? No, because Proton is only subject to the laws where they are a registered business. Proton only (and others like them) worries about the ones that apply to them, and they include the United States of America for a reason.

Oh, I am aware of your simping trolling behavior for Proton, but I refuse to acknowledge your nonsense on my old account.

You do not get to pick and choose what laws you follow, and only when you feel they are connivent. That is not how laws work. Proton does not list any laws or bi-laws concerning, the "France" (random), for example, because they could, careless since they do not apply to them. They're not a registered business in "France" (random). The same way, I and most people here, don't care about what the laws are in North Korea, for example. Because they do not apply to most of us here.

There are over 200 independent states or nations or territories, or whatever, but you don't see terms and guidelines for all 200. The reason for this is that a business, like a person, only cares about the laws that apply to them. It is not rocket science.

Proton sells products and services to people in France, South Korea, Germany, Canada, Etc... Etc... Just as you could sell digital products and services to these people, but you would not need to put terms concerning each individual nation for each individual customer, because it would be the responsibility of your customer to follow their own laws, and the only laws that would apply to you are those you are subject to. Again, you don't see any business on the internet, listing terms for all 200 or so independent states, or nations, or territories, or whatever, but you do see them including only the ones that apply to themselves.

Proton, is subject to Us-jurisdiction and that is why they include terms and conditions surrounding US Laws. They'll argue that it only applies to Proton Wallet, but again, you don't get to pick and choose, when laws apply to an individual, anymore than you can a business. But even if it were true (it's not), they could still be influences and impacted by the laws and governing body of the United States, since they were not immune to them.

In contrast, I and most people here are immune to whatever goes on in, North Korea (random example). I can freely write all about how awful Kim Jong Un is, even though it is illegal to do so in North Korea. There is nothing legally stopping me, and no one within that governing body could ever influence me to stop either.

You like Proton. I am happy you found a provider you like. But you, choose to like or disliking Proton, does not change their legal standing.

ProtonProton Wallet Terms of Use | ProtonThese Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute an agreement between the customer ("you" or "user") and Proton Financial AG, a company limited by share incorporated in Switzerland with company number CHE-279.911.859, whose registered address is Baarermattstrasse 8F 6340 Baar, Switzerland (the "Company", "Proton Financial AG").

Proton is leaving because Proton cannot control the flow of information here on the Fediverse.

Most corporations mimic social algorithms to their advantage, particularly, to suppress news and information that may not paint them in a good light. Proton cannot do that on the Fediverse.

When Proton rebranded a few years ago, which caused some people to lose their accounts with no refund, they silenced any complaints on both Facebook and Reddit. I know, because I was one of those people. Most of you were happy to have the new upgraded accounts, but if you had the original family plan, which they discontinued (only to start selling a new family plan months later), you were not a happy person to find out you lost your service.

Additionally, it has been brought to people's attention that Proton now falls under Us-jurisdiction. Proton would like to argue that is only for Proton Wallet, but our legal system does not allow a company to pick and choose. Plus, even if they could (you cannot), it means they could still be pressured and influence by US Politics and US Laws now. This was another little fact, Proton wanted to suppress, but cannot because the Fediverse is organic, and not centralized.

So, there was an email from #ProtonPrivacy earlier today saying their #ProtonWallet was out of early access.

I was amused by this line: "Proton Wallet is now ready to bring financial freedom and sovereignty to all."

The irony of a bitcoin wallet in the mid 2020s is that by seeking 'financial freedom and sovereignty' there's a good chance your existing bank will unbank you, due to crypto being almost solely used in crime. Good luck paying your bills (VPN aside) in Bitcoin.

FOSS NEWS

VirtualBox 7.1 beta is available, with more modern UI, clipboard sharing on Wayland, Apple Silicon and ARM virtualisation of Linux and BSD VMs, new logo:
omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/07/virtua
(The new logo seems pretty crap. The new UI is also a bit weird.)
(Clipboard sharing is great though. Wish it was easier with QEMU, the only simple solution is spice-vdagent but it only works if both host and guest runs GNOME.)

Murena (/e/OS) 2.2 released with more filters for tracker blocker, parental control, App Lounge includes NSFW rating from F-Droid:

Swiss government makes open source software mandatory for public sector:
news.itsfoss.com/switzerland-o
(Now this is a great example that it isn't impossible to switch to open source, and get independent from the US.)
(Germany has similar endeavours, they also experiment with Linux, LibreOffice (which is also taught at schools afaik) and Matrix. Hopefully more governments will catch up in the future.)

Proton introduces new Bitcoin wallet, Proton Wallet, which also includes Bitcoin sharing via email:

(Proton has something new to show every week, while Google is shutting down a service nobody cares about every few weeks lol)

New FOSS AI image generator AuraFlow released:

(Oh no not AI again lol)

OMG! Ubuntu · VirtualBox 7.1 Beta: Streamlined UI, Wayland Clipboard Sharing, New Logo - OMG! UbuntuIf you plan on trying the new Linux Mint 22 release in a virtual machine, you could double the fun by taking it for a spin in the new VirtualBox 7.1 beta

...but still no Drive app for Linux.

This is after the AI feature that nobody seemed to want. They seem to be going for a 'prioritisation by bandwagon' approach.
