UK colleagues: a quick reminder to check and (perhaps) boost your state pension before 5th April '25.

You can 'buy back' any missing national insurance years from 2006 to 2018 until that deadline. After that, you'll only be able to buy back the last six financial years.

GOV.UKCheck your National Insurance recordFind out if you've paid enough National Insurance to qualify for the full State Pension - check gaps, contributions and credits, get a National Insurance statement, call the helpline.

the state of #arizona is apparently getting ready to vote on a bill that would "invest' up to 10% of all public funds (including stuff like pensions for teachers, cops, and firefighters etc) into crypto.

state pension funds are some of the largest pools of money on the planet and they have long been targeted by the crypto industry as prime targets for draining into the hands of crypto bros. some states (Wisconsin, maybe others) have already taken the plunge. i have no idea if katie hobbs will sign this bill but mark my words arizona won’t be the last.

Holy shit... I didn't even know this was a thing and the govt (tory scum) covered it up, still won't say what the problem is, how many are affected... there's people who are missing a couple of years.

Turns out... I'm missing 8yrs myself.

From 2010 to 2017, I'd given up work to help care for my late father.

I was on benefits during that time partly as a carer and partly due to my own health issues.

For that entire time... I've been entitled to a weekly credit towards my national insurance contributions that you pay to be entitled to your state pension when you retire.

I was prompted to look into my NI record after I was told about a deadline this April for topping up any shortfalls from the years 2006-2016 in your record.

Up to 2009, I have all full years aside from 90-91 and 93-94 when I was still starting out in life and looking for a career that interested me. Not really an issue as more than 30yrs. It's 2yrs out of the approx 35yrs required. Not a problem when you have a working life of around 50yrs.

But I wanted to retire early, I don't want to work until I'm 67... and because of this, I'd have too.

So now I need to get working and investigating how I can get this record corrected.

That missing 8yrs, is enough to get me over the finish line so that I could retire in my 50's, some 10yrs early.

This Is Money · DWP and HMRC must 'come clean' over missing state pension creditsBy Tanya Jefferies

#Retirement in the #UK isn't possible for many once they reach #statepension, let alone #retiring early. This is especially true for #women whose #workinglife often didn't come with a #pension option. For those not fit enough to #work until they drop, the consequence is frequently dire #poverty. This is #21stcentury #UK, rapidly sinking to an #Orwellian #dystopia with ex- #government members favouring a #LogansRun approach.
