Decided to have a Strokes Saturday.
When this came out a few years ago, I wasn’t expecting it to be as great as it is. Although I enjoyed Comedown Machine, it’s clearly the worst Strokes album not named First Impressions Of Earth, and I was expecting a continued drop-off.
Didn’t happen.
This is a re-energized and invigorated Strokes, sounding vital & excited again, with a huge assist from Rick Rubin.

My 2nd favorite Strokes album, after Is This It?.
Angles is kind of a dark horse in their catalog. I don’t feel like it’s mentioned as much, but it’s really great, despite the band hating the “awful” process of making it. Casablancas was absent, & Hammond was dealing with drug abuse.
There’s keyboards, more pedals, more vocal harmonies & layering.
Both Taken For A Fool & Under Cover Of Darkness are stellar pop songs.
