Twin Peaks Quotes
Log Lady: There are many stories in Twin Peaks. Some of them are sad, some funny. Some are stories of madness, of violence. Some are ordinary. Yet they all have about them a sense of mystery. The mystery of life, sometimes the mystery of death

#TwinPeaks #TwinPeaksQuotes

penwing (they/them)
We're going to be continuing our #TwinPeaks watch tonight with the start of The Return. So much speculation, but I think the question everyone's lips is: how's the pine weasel population?

Matt (wafrn)
Twin Peaks Seasons 1 & 2 Reviewed

Oxford dictionary defines the word "Lynchian" as "Characteristic, reminiscent, or imitative of the films or television work of David Lynch" and it is a word because the work of David Lynch is often hard to objectively define otherwise.

When I was very young, my mom and I watched this show together because she saw it in her childhood and it had remained one of her favourite television shows of all time. Then we watched 'The Return' when it came out, and 'Fire Walk With Me' together. An FBI specialist is brought to town to investigate the murder of Laura Palmer, and one of his first moves is to set up a deductive Tibetan method: huckin' rocks at a bottle on a stump. He learns who killed her in a dream, but then he forgets in the next episode. The inhabiting spirits and a giant come from behind the curtain in the woods guarded by owls. Revisiting it years later reveals an interesting point: I couldn't remember any of what actually happens in the show. But I remembered all the ways that it had caused me to feel.

"Have you ever experienced absolute loss? No… more than grief. It's deep down inside. Every cell screams. You can hear nothing else."

A globally recognized marvel. The singularity event. So inspiring and so powerfully moving that it would speak uniquely to every generation, whether or not any of us have been able to pinpoint exactly what is so evocative about it. Nothing before it was quite like 'Twin Peaks,' but so much that’s come since owes it a majority share of its DNA.

In the truest sense, I believe it is the most influential story since Homer's Odyssey. 'Alan Wake,' 'Stranger Things,' 'Gravity Falls,' and 'Night Vale' are all examples of fiction I adore that exists because of this series. Weekly hour-long drama television became a smattering of attempts at cracking the secret formula; 'Bates Motel,' 'Teen Wolf' or 'Riverdale' all reverse engineered from the genetic code of 'Twin Peaks' to little or no success. A billion different indie games outwardly and deliberately draw inspiration from it. Some in less of a direct sense, and more of a spiritually inspired way. Regardless, bar none, one of the leading influences across all of art in the years since it was first aired.

It isn't a soap opera, nor a murder mystery. This show is probably so special because it cannot be categorized or viewed through any sort of existing perspectives. It's hard to see in present time, but back during its production it had to have been absolutely and entirely its own ball of wax. Its design is to tell a story by evoking specific feelings in the viewer, rather than explaining its beats objectively. In that spirit, to try and analyze its mysteries is very nearly an affront to such a work; ripping at the fabric of its masterfully deliberate ambiguity reaps no reward. Smile, cry or laugh, but don't ever try for a glimpse behind the curtain. 'Twin Peaks' is to be felt before it is even close to being understood.

There's a very good reason why these first two seasons were so inspiring to people, but it can't be put into words. It is best described by a little guy dancing in reverse with a fist full of creamed corn, and somehow it makes you feel scared and homesick.

This review is available on #letterboxd here: https://boxd.it/9AByH9

#letterboxd #review #twinpeaks #davidlynch #letterboxd #letterboxd
