Thor A. Hopland<p>The <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/FedoraAtomic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FedoraAtomic</span></a> project brought us the <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/uBlue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>uBlue</span></a> project, which is an immutable operating system for ordinary users, which is cool. It is the basis of many new immutable distros.</p><p>But, if for some reason you require a <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> / <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> base, then look no further than <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/VanillaOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VanillaOS</span></a>. Jeff Forcier<p>Anyway, <a href="https://social.coop/tags/VanillaOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VanillaOS</span></a> sounds like it might be a decent replacement for my <a href="https://social.coop/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a> use case, specifically the (semi-)immutability/reproducibility and mashing various arbitrary versions/sources of packages together into a unified shell path.</p><p>PS: LMK if you'd like a share link to this article! Tho I totes recommend buying a LWN sub, it's one of the best monthly/yearly values I can think of if you touch OSS technologies on the regular (not even necessarily Linux itself).
