Yeah, that's "the solution" (sarcasm): #OpenAI is going to buy #Chrome to stop #Alphabet from monopolizing the search market with #Google integrated in this #WebBrowser.

First of all, stopping Google's monopolization–or that of #Meta/ #Facebook, #Twitter / #X, #Microsoft or any other #BigTech product–is so 2015 and seem to me like a staged charade.

Second, the fact that other companies threatening our society due to #copyright and #privacy violations speculate about buying reveals that this is not about regulation but #whitewashing a brand and strategically combining tools to even better exploit the resource of human data.

We believe the choices were important when we made them, but even more so today. Our servers are in Iceland and they are our servers and not some cloud servers. We use them for all Vivaldi services, including things like Sync, Blogs, Forums and Vivaldi Social. Electricity in Iceland is green. A few years ago I went on a journey. A journey to find a new favorite web browser that wasn’t called chrome. I found one. It was… basically… ya know… chrome without actually being chrome. I settled on Vivaldi. I like it. I put it on my MacBook Pro, and my personal Windows desktop box, and my work laptop (just for personal stuff like my personal email and… ya know… this blog) and as soon as it was available I also put it on my iPhone and my iPad.

Yesterday the company I work for updated its list of approved applications and Vivaldi was not on it. Boo. In order to comply with the rules, I had to give it up on that machine. Firefox is on the list though, so I have brought that back for my personal use (while we all use Chrome for work use).

It is fine. No complaints about Firefox here it’s just… not the browser I want to use.

You know, it’s all fine and good and everything is okay and the universe isn’t spiraling down the drain and heading for the sewer. Yeah, that has nothing to do with web browsers it’s just… you know… blah. Boo.

Here’s a couple of pictures of a cat because even though the universe is collapsing into crap, cats are still fuzzy and cute and adorable.

Es wurde #LibreWolf. Mobil #Vanadium auf #GrapheneOS.

Ist auch vermutlich eine gute Wahl aus #privacy & #security-Perspektive.

Allerdings gibt's bei LibreWolf das Problem, dass fast alle Zeitangaben nur noch in #UTC dargestellt werden. Besonders lästig bei Chats, Version Control Systems, Kalender, ... im Browser. Könnte man auch disablen aber offenbar nur als größeres Paket von an sich sinnvollen Anti-Tracking-Maßnahmen.

Diverse Workarounds haben bei mir bislang nicht funktioniert.

Meine Lösung aktuell: für diese Seiten, wo mir Zeitangaben wichtig sind, habe ich #Firefox (mit diversen Privacy-add-ons).

Das Wichtigste ist ohnehin in jedem #Browser #NoScript.
