Our webpage with calls for observations of stellar occultations by asteroids across Europe was updated today.

Occultations by main-belt asteroids, suspected binary asteroids, slow-rotators and even by a comet are now listed until June 15.
Events with four or more announced stations are added. These coverages promise good shadow profiles.

Plan your own observation now.

Edward Tomanek-Volynets' #PhD #research has just been published:

"The pointer network for reward maximisation in multi-target
space mission sequence selection"

This work uses machine learning to optimise sequences of targets to visit in a multi-target #space mission, for example #asteroid rendezvous, #spacedebris removal, or #satellite servicing.

For a long time scientists have thought that Vesta one of the largest objects in our asteroid belt was an asteroid. Then they decided that actually it was more like a planet with a crust, mantle and core. But now they have discovered that it doesn't actually have a core and so actually it is... in need of further research. It may be that it was the beginning of an early planet or it is a piece of a growing planet.
