Sunday morning, recommended #documentary film.

Before the formation of the Israel Defense Forces in 1948, there were three underground #Zionist #militias - The #Haganah, the #Irgun and the #Lehi.

They differed in tactics and beliefs, and at times fought with each other - but together they terrorised #Palestinian villages and executed attacks and #bombings against the #British to force them to give up control of the land.

They blew up hotels in #Jerusalem, embassies in #Europe and #assassinated a UN mediator.

After #Israel was officiated as a state - the three #terrorist militias would create the #IDF - and their leaders would go on to form Israel’s government, become #politicians, #ambassadors and #PrimeMinisters.

And their dark #history would be forgotten.

Today in Labor History June 2, 1919: Anarchist Galleanists carried out a series of 9 coordinated bombings across the Eastern United States. They damaged the homes of U.S. Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, as well as then Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Franklin D. Roosevelt. They also targeted a number of judges. None of the targeted men died, although a night watchman, a former editor of the Galleanist publication “Cronaca Sovversiva,” did accidentally get killed. The bombs were delivered in packages that included the following note: “War, Class war, and you were the first to wage it under the cover of the powerful institutions you call order, in the darkness of your laws. There will have to be bloodshed; we will not dodge; there will have to be murder: we will kill, because it is necessary; there will have to be destruction; we will destroy to rid the world of your tyrannical institutions.”

The response by Palmer included mass illegal search and seizures, unwarranted arrests and the deportation of several hundred suspected radicals and anarchists. He also carried the nationwide witch hunts known as the Palmer raids in November 1919 and January 1920, arresting 10,000 anarchists, communists, and labor leaders, imprisoning 3,500, and deporting 556, including Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), was founded in response to the raid, by IWW organizer Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Helen Keller, and others.

My family has made the extremely difficult decision to flee their beloved #homeland after four months of constant #bombings, #violence, and #starvation. My family was #violently #displaced from their home in #GazaCity and are now living in #Rafah in a tent structure with little #food, no potable #water, no #electricity and no access to necessary #medicine or care for my diabetic uncle. The eight people includes my cousin's four month old #baby, born during this #bombardment. Every day is a struggle for #survival as they must #scavenge for food and wood for cooking while simultaneously being #surrounded by #tanks and enduring constant bombardment.

I have started this fundraising campaign because it has become necessary for them to #evacuate to #Egypt for safety and stability. They have lost everything in this #war, including my uncle's business and the family's only source of income. He owned a beloved dessert restaurant in the community (Bubbles), which was destroyed early on.

Unfortunately, the cost of #escape and temporary #shelter in Egypt is more than my family or I can afford so I am relying on your generosity to help my family find some peace. This is for one branch of my family in Gaza, eight people, who are hoping to escape.

A new investigation by Yuval Abraham in +972 and Local Call, based on conversations with intelligence sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity, suggests that the Israeli army carried out relentless airstrikes in Gaza despite having little intelligence of the whereabouts of the more than 240 #hostages who were kidnapped on October 7. Moreover, testimonies from newly freed Israeli hostages, as well as from some of the hostages’ families, indicate that one of the main fears of those held captive in Gaza was the threat of being hit by Israeli #bombings.

#ProjectCensored: We’ve been seeing this bizarre divorcing of attacker and attack all the time in Gaza since October 7, with news outlets sometimes going entire articles speaking only of “blasts” and “#bombings” without ever actually mentioning the state who is inflicting them…
While mentions of Israel are scant in CNN’s reporting, mentions of the United States are missing altogether. At no time in the 14-minute segment does Ward or anyone else make any mention of the fact that this relentless massacre can only happen because it is being backed by the US, and that the Biden administration… and that the Biden administration could end it at any time by withdrawing that backing.
