Rebel Witch is the sequel to Heartless Hunter. It follows Gideon Sharpe, a witch hunter, and Rune Winters, a witch. This book follows the dramatic end of Heartless Hunter to show how Gideon and Rune are dealing with each other's betrayal and the loss of a loved one.

I started this book on Friday, and I'm currently at 45% . I love how this book shows the complex feelings of Gideon and Rune and their struggle to not show their lingering feelings to each other.

👍 This book was so damn GOOD. So haunting, so real, and as a person with sisters, I felt the underlying theme of female familial bonds. I loved the historical note at the end!

👎 Thus, my only complaint was at the end. I understand that this was also a romance, but I think the end was missing that extra special punch to the feels. I needed an on-page sister heart-to-heart.

Wonder how Musk and RFK Jr.—guys with no expertise in _anything_—became so powerful? In every forum, we repeatedly read the complaint that "copying isn't stealing because the original thing still remains." The implication is that if anyone has created a "copyable" product, they have no right to charge for it and must expect and tolerate that it will be widely copied without charge. One thing they hate with particular fury is digital rights management (DRM) technologies, technical means for ensuring that the only copies made are authorized by creators. In this one area, cyberlibertarians oppose a technical fix to a legal and social problem, which is interesting because they usually champion such solutions. As always, the dominant principle is me-first: I can protect my own machine by encrypting my communications, so nobody should stop me from doing it; but I can see that new game or music file and can't use it due to DRM, so DRM should be outlawed. (DRM creates an interesting conceptual conundrum for the vague first principle of freedom in Stallman's description of free software, since it's unclear why the use of such software would not be a freedom that developers should enjoy even though it ends up violating some of the other freedoms.)

The idea that print had widespread negative effects, even as it had positive ones, is visible in the work of Walter Ong (1982) and Harold Innis (195o, 195), among others. That the "interner" may have a wide range of negative effects, including the dismantling of the positive changes of the printing revolution, could not be clearer. Warner, for example, notes that print was praised in early America for engendering a culure of "polite-ness," and that "there was a tension between the civic humanist paradigm of print as a public and general sphere of action and a proto-liberal paradigm of print as an arena for managed esteem and distinction" (1990, 138). The kinds of esteem and distinction print may have helped to promote among the American founders look very different from the kinds of "polite-ness' promoted today on Reddit, 4chan, and the apparent digiral equivalent of eighteenth-century coffeehouses, the comments sections of newspapers and other online publications. Indeed, the incivility of such environments reflects, in part, the danger of presuming that technology is "democratiz-ing in the robust political sense of the term. By relying on that mechanical democratization, we demonstrate little interest in promoting the kinds of deep and at least partly civil political discussions out of which our own democracy was built.

📚 “This is the terrible thing about a tragedy. It isn’t with you every minute. You forget it, and then you remember it again.”

👍Binged in a day. It has a strong start. The mystery was compelling and I enjoyed the trip to Austin. The last line was heart warming.

📚 “Love is always harder. Love means weathering blows for another’s sake and not counting them.”

👍A historical fiction set in France during the plague. It gave me Pillars of the Earth mixed with The Decameron vibes. I enjoyed following the MC’s on their journey and the character development. There were some consequences and some absolutely bonkers depictions of demons and Hell. The ending had some nice symmetry.

👎 The final boss fight was slightly anti climactic. I feel like after such a long journey, I needed more.
