KIRCHE ENSTED

Diese Kirche habe ich gestern unweit unseres Wohnortes in der kleinen dänischen Gemeinde Ensted bei Apenrade entdeckt.

Sie hat eine klare und schlichte Architektur. Passend dazu ist der sie umgebende Kirchhof / Friedhof angelegt. Alleine das Verweilen an diesem Ort hat etwas charismatisches.

My daughter got this as part of a children’s ministry this evening (from a different church than our parish—it’s supposed to look like the little flames that alighted on the disciples at Pentecost). Preaching good news to all creation? Gotta be honest, that reads to me like taking care of the environment, reducing our carbon output, treating #ClimateChange like the actual, real thing it is. This is something #Jesus commissioned His #Church to do. It’s past time more #Christians listened.

#Doorsday's child has far to go ... all the way to #Córdoba in fact.

This is a lovely old #door from the Mosque-Cathedral or #Mezquita with details of #MoorishArchitecture. In fact, it's one of the oldest surviving gates of the former mosque! The door's decoration dates back to 855 when it was known as Bab al-Wuzara ("Viziers' Gate). Lots of Al-Andalus state officials used to enter the mosque here. The Great Mosque of Córdoba was converted into a Catholic #cathedral in the 13th century. It's a World Heritage Site since 1984.

A weathered stone facade, likely part of a historic building such as the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, dominates the frame. The stonework is a light beige, showing significant signs of age and erosion, with varied textures and uneven surfaces. A prominent horseshoe archway, characteristic of Moorish architecture, frames a set of aged, dark metal double doors. The arch is outlined in a lighter stone and features alternating red and white voussoirs. Above the archway, there is a rectangular panel with intricate, though worn, carvings. Flanking the central archway are sections of the stone wall with further decorative elements, including what appear to be blocked-up windows or niches with geometric patterns. The top of the facade is crenellated, with a series of rectangular merlons against a partly cloudy blue sky. The ground in front of the facade is paved with light-coloured stone slabs, showing some signs of wear.

This is my door for #doorsday today. I took a picture through the door of the Antonius Abtkerk, this beautiful church is located in the neighborhood where I live. It took me a while to figure out how this picture was taken. The picture is from 10 years ago from the time when my passion for reflections. Do you see it right away? I took a selfie here in (and through) the glass interior doors of the Antonius Abtkerk in The Hague. It's a strange photo because you only see the interior of the church where my image blocks the daylight. Around it, you see the other side of the street reflected in normal daylight. On the left halve of the photo you see within the contours of my image (only upper body) a long, vertical, marble, orange-yellow illuminated path, wide at the bottom of the photo due to the perspective and narrow in the distance. At the end of the path, at the height of my face and camera, is a large golden cross with behind it high, golden (by the light) pipes of a church organ. So you see in my contours exactly what I see through the viewfinder of the camera.

Sauron hidden in plain sight in #Bergen? No, it is just Slettebakken Church.

Opened in 1970, it is a concrete construction with a fan-shaped copper roof, and a glass slit that lets daylight in to the main room. The "AD ASTRA" plan by architect Tore Sveram was apparently met with skepticism by the municipality, but loved by the congregation, and still stands as a striking landmark by Tveitevannet in Bergen.
