Whenever I see newspapers feature a photo of a police badge or car as the illustration for a crime, I wonder if it's because the police did it or because they were useless in preventing it.

There's a very long history of the police, police unions, and the state manipulating the press to make you think that cops solve crimes (they don’t), that they protect you (they protect property), and that they are indispensable (many cities such as #Durham, NC have success with unarmed response teams for non-emergency calls).
