I continue to transition my #art from #deviantart to #Pixelfed. #AIhasDestroyedArtPlatforms such as Deviant Art for me. And unlike most other platforms, I greatly appreciate the freedom of the #Fediverse, including the lack of data collection, or the lack of algorithms dictating what we see, think or feel. #HelloPixelfed. #GoodbyeDeviantArt.

This is more of a #photomanipulation than a #digitalpainting - though there are touch ups. Originally, when I created this, it was meant to represent how I was feeling at the same, particularly during February, one of the most #depressing months. And now I reflect on how much has changed. Though I have experienced #dark days, I have also learned the value and necessity of finding meaning (i.e., finding #alifeworthliving). This can be anything from arts, nature, crafts, activities, hobbies, meditation, relationships and so on. Reflecting back on 2012, I am happy to say that life is much more bright nowadays. However, life would not be so bright without those dark days.

Even if in theory you know the way out, sometimes you can fall so far down a hole and be hurt so badly that you can no longer get out on your own and need assistance to do so.
The way out you may know, but the person you know it as may have changed.
Don't forget that there are two requirements here:

• knowing the path, and
• being able to walk that path. Just because you knew the way out as one person, in the past, doesn't mean you know it as the person you are now.

In this episode, Ariel and Christina try to get to the bottom of why our fictional visions of utopia are so negative. They often involve mindless acquiescence to an authoritarian nanny state, the oppression and labor of an underclass, or both. It’s as if we can’t imagine a situation in which we all voluntarily treat each other (reasonably) decently and life can be good for everyone. We discuss the literary origins of utopia, how it has evolved (or not) as a concept, and Ariel gives a few examples of sci-fi futures that are about as close to her style of solarpunk utopia as can be. Ultimately, the topic of utopia raises more questions than answers.
