I am Sophia.
I am a transsexual woman born in 1974. Started transition in 2008. Married happily since 2015.

I hope this will be a great Mastodon for me, given that I was previously banned for defending myself against transmisogynist rhetoric.

Outside of me talking about transmisogyny and feminism, I also do clay modeling, gardening and knitting in my free time.

Looking to meet other transsexuals especially of my age, as the network seems to be dominated by young people… while it is not a bad thing I would want to connect with fellow adult peers first :-)

J.K. Rowling posted a haunting selfie on her super yacht, smoking a cigar and drink in hand, in celebration of the UK Supreme Court Ruling that defines a woman as someone born biologically female, thereby excluding trans women. In calling it “TERF VE Day” Rowling aligns herself with the rhetoric of fascist politicians but also with the deeply transphobe history of Anti-Trans Movements. In her book Enemy Feminists, author Sophie Lewis lays out not only the history of TERFs but also other troubling currents in feminism, which at times veered into colonialist, racist, pro-police, pro-nazi territory. In order to deepen our anti-fascist, -capitalist, -colonialist, -racist, trans-inclusive, etc. feminism we need to understand these enemy feminisms.

Know Your Enemies.
Know Your Enemy Feminisms.

About time. New song

🎶 ¡Oyeme! - por Luz Belle & icaria36 🎶

Luz Belle brings her lyrics, voice and musical experience to this remote collaboration brewed in the area of Baza. Her invitation to work together in a song against patriarchy suprised me positively. What do you think?

Today in Labor History May 5, 1882: Sylvia Pankhurst was born on this day. Plankhurst was a leader of the English women's suffrage movement. She was also a left (council) communist activist and follower of Anton Pannekoek. In her “Constitution for British Soviets,” she argued that "Mothers and … organizers of the family life of the community [should] be adequately represented, and … take their due part in the management of society [through] a system of household Soviets..."

Not In Our Name: #Feminist #Academics and #Educators Speak Out Against #Transphobia We call on all trans-inclusive feminist academics and educators to sign this #statement docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI

Google DocsNot In Our Name: Feminist Academics and Educators Speak Out Against TransphobiaWe call on all trans-inclusive feminist academics and educators to sign this statement: ‘Not In Our Name’ We are non-trans feminist academics and educators. We write in support of trans rights, trans wellbeing and trans inclusion. The harmful Supreme Court ruling states that women and men are defined by their ‘biology', by their ‘sex at birth’. The extreme interpretation of this ruling by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) suggests that trans women and trans men should be restricted in their access to workplaces, schools, sports and services, excluding trans people from using the facilities of their gender. Anti-trans campaigners say they want to exclude trans women from women’s spaces in order to protect cis women. We do not need protection from trans people. We need action against sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence and everyday sexism. We need policies that guarantee women get equal pay for their work, affordable childcare and the eradication of childbirth-related deaths. And we need the state to stop the violence that trans people face at the hands of cis men and cis women. We need to stand together in defence of everyone's bodily autonomy, gender expression, reproductive rights, and individual freedoms. We cannot have a state or society that checks people’s genitals when they go to the toilet, go to work or school, play sports, access healthcare or use facilities. We unequivocally reject the idea that women can be defined by their biology, a claim which is neither feminist nor scientific. For centuries, women have fought for the right to do, wear and be what they want to be. It is essentialist and patriarchal to assert that body, genes, chromosomes and reproductive capacity make women (or men). Feminism teaches us that our body does not determine our destiny, and nor should legislation, policies, or society's expectations. Trans people are being used as scapegoats and a distraction from the problems that we actually face in society. This is an attack on trans people and will further inflame transphobia. When the Supreme Court ‘clarifies’ (cf. Supreme Court, 2025, pg. 76) what a woman ‘is’ they enforce the idea that all women need to conform to a singular, racialised and ableist model of femininity. We want our feminism to be vibrant and intersectional. Trans and non-binary people are part of us. We support all people to be free and safe to express themselves without fear of prejudice or harm. As educators and academics, we have a duty to care. We must strive to make education a safer, more inclusive and equitable space for everyone. We stand with our trans and non-binary colleagues and students. We fight for everyone’s right to be educators and educated, without prejudice or harm. We are not victims. We welcome trans people. We demand that trans people are able to live their lives safely and with dignity. We believe that trans women are women and trans men are men. The Supreme Court ruling is not a victory for feminism; it is a victory for patriarchy. And when the patriarchy wins, everybody loses. This ruling does not speak for us. Not in our name.

I loved the event I went to tonight with my step-mom. 4 ladies performing Poe pieces in very arch and dramatic fashion, 4 customized (weak) cocktails. It was so much fun even if I needed a couple beers to enhance my buzz (and Michelle gave her last cocktail to me, it was too Fruit Punchy), Maybe some pictures of our goth outfits we wore later.

#WritersCoffeeClub 20 April 2025: What role does #Religion play in your #Writing ?

Religion or #faith plays a significant but subtle role in my #RallyRhoades series. These are #cozymystery stories ( #feminist take on #NeroWolfe meets #TrixieBelden ) are set at an #Episcopal #BoardingSchool

In other words, the rituals & tradition of an Episcopal school provide the daily rhythms & moral foundations of the stories. They are discussed & noted but not always in great detail. They definitely color the lens through which I, & the characters, see the world of the #TyndaleAcademies however, I don’t think readers need to be intimately aware of or even familiar with their nuances in order to enjoy or understand the stories (just like you don’t have to be a gourmand to appreciate the Nero Wolfe stories).

When I began writing these, I was emphatic that I wanted an Episcopal boarding school & flavor although I am still not sure why other than for authenticity (it’s my personal background).

Fascism is on the rise, in the US advancing fast – but it’s happening all over the world. Especially trans people are under immediate threat. The U.S. Departement of Health and Human Services asks people to rat out trans kids and their families. Meanwhile in the UK, the highest court ruled just last week that the legal definition of ‘woman’ excludes trans women. Sadly, transphobia has a history in ‘feminism’ [> must read: «Enemy Feminist» from Sophie Lewis @reproutopia]. Therefore the umbrella term ‘feminism’ always has to be specified as antifascist among many other demands!

We need to speak out and we need to fight fascism, because we can't allow history to repeat itself.

Explore the history of #chinoiserie through a feminist lens 🔍

When porcelain arrived in early modern Europe from China, it led to the rise of chinoiserie, a decorative style that encompassed Europe’s fantasies of the East and fixations on the exotic, along with new ideas about women, sexuality, and race.
