Recently I picked up a used copy of MAKING MOVIES, a memoir by Sidney Lumet, the legendary film director, and found some inscriptions written in 2002 on the inside cover.

Now I have questions. Where are Aunt Bettye and Uncle Stan now? How’s Katy Beeman doing? Who’s Spike? And most importantly, what became of Joel, the recipient of the book? Did he become a #filmmaker? Did you “make it in Hollywood” like Aunt Bettye hoped? Have I seen any of your work, Joel? So many questions.
