As we were coming to the end of our time in Ghent and were crossing one of the many bridges over the canals on the way back to our bus we heard a high buzzing noise and came across a couple in wedding outfits being filmed by a drone. Whether they were actually a couple or whether they were simply being filmed for promotional material, we couldn't say.

On the opposite side from us, standing at the central hump and facing away from us out over the water below and out of sight there is a couple in wedding attire. He has a dark suit and is holding the bride's bouquet of white flowers in his right hand. She is on his left, with a white dress with flowered pattern and a train of a metre or two. She has bare shoulders over a white fur stole, a long veil back from her face and down her back, and she holds a small lace parasol above her in her left hand. Northern European style buildings with stepped gables line the canal edge behind them.

Gravensteen is a twelfth century castle in the city of Ghent, Belgium, and we like castles so we had to visit it during our trip there in early 2017. From the top you get a great view over the city skyline and if you're a fan of churches and their towers then Ghent won't disappoint you.

A view from a high building in the centre of a European city with a medieval history. It's an overcast day and there's a feeling that there's been rain in the recent past given the damp look to the buildings we can see. We're looking over the tops of roofs of four and five storey buildings, many with very tall, steep roofs, some with stepped gables typical of northern European countries. Four church towers are spaced across the city's skyline, two with clock faces on them.
