In this Internation Day Against DRM #IDAD there are some who are asking to make the DRM problem on the web even worse, adding more restrictions to users, in a way that once again breaks the web by making different browers, OSs, etc have a different behaviour:

Fortunately, there are those who keeps consistently fighting against DRM, in all its fronts.

Today, the FSF is sending a message about DRM on Operating Systems:

And ANSOL is promoting a number of DRM-free sources of culture (music, books, software, etc.): viste.pt/videos/watch/31203e97

Earlier this year, Software Freedom Conservancy managed a major win in the US: sfconservancy.org/news/2024/oc

And, as I often do, let me remind you of a good ol' article from FSFE telling you how can you fight against DRM in your country, if you're in Europe: fsfe.org/news/2019/news-201911

How will YOU be celebrating #idad2024 ?

I'm not sure we can say #IDAD is in December - it has been the last few years, but it wasn't so before. Maybe now it is decided to always be in #December but I haven't heard about that anywhere. Maybe @endDRM or @fsf can shed some light on this - I'd love to start knowing the date for the next #IDAD with more time in advance...

This year's #IDAD (International Day Against #DRM ) was marked with the news that #Sony - once again - decided to screw their customers over with DRM.

Yes, Sony's rootkit scandal was already 18 years ago, but if some of us still complain about it, it is because the lesson wasn't learned. The proof is that now, 18 years later, Sony keeps shipping products and "selling" them with DRM, for the obvious and inevitable purpose of restricting their users.

This is evil, and inexcusable. As usual, @pluralistic puts it better than I do:

I'd publicly noted my disappointment with glowing *Wired* reviews of #DRM-encumbered digital devices, prompting Anderson to call me unrealistic for expecting the magazine to condemn gadgets for their DRM: https://longtail.typepad.com/the_long_tail/2004/12/is_drm_evil.html 1/

For this year's I created a survey to assess public knowledge and opinion of . The more informed we are as a whole, the better we can fight it.

The survey is hosted on my own NextCloud server - no ads, no trackers, no AI, no personal information. If you have 7-12 minutes to spare, I would appreciate if you can fill it out. Thank you in advance!
