I learned about this method in art class at a community college 25 years ago. The professor told us about Chuck Close and his enormous hyper realistic portraits. Apparently, he would split up a photo into a grid of squares and then concentrate solely on drawing what was in each square.

His 1968 Big Self-Portait is at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Class field trip!

Bicycled to and from Peterson today. 26 bicyclists within one hour. 1 person running, no one walking.

2 kayakers and 2 people in canoes on the Root River. 1 person fly fishing-standing in the river. 4 people fishing from a riverbank.

Kids with free lemonade and a tip jar at a spot on the trail helped me realize I'd left my wallet on the kitchen counter. Oops.

Best last minute invite ever!

Friends invited me to see the "Fun Home" musical down in Minneapolis with them today. I laughed and cried. There was live music, too, seated BEHIND the racks of stuff on stage. It is based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel about growing up in a funeral home, coming out as gay, and her relationship with her parents, especially her dad.

The crowd was filled! Bonus queer local comics for sale in the lobby.

#Minnesota Artist, Charles Beck, produced amazing works inspired by the beauty and rhythm of northern plains #landscapes.

I posted this because the rains are here, and the landscape is quickly greening. I can't wait to see the fields come alive and the prairies bursting with wild flowers, and the hope and anticipation that accompanies it all.
