Been curious how a nalbound bag would go, and a few weeks ago I was gifted the perfect yarn to play with. Turned out great, I think! The shoulder strap and white stripes are… appliqué? Made post-facto but attached as they were made.
Don’t know all the vocab- Finnish 2+2. Most connections were F1. Connection loops for the stripes/strap were picked up after the +2 of the stitch but before the stitch was finished. #HandMade #FiberArts #StringCraft #Nalbinding #Wool #Mastoart

Pictured: A dark grey woolen bag with white stripes across the front. Closing strap is narrow with a buttonhole. The pattern of the stitches give it a sort of braided or herringbone texture. There isn’t a closure yet, I can decide if I’m going to use a toggle or a button.
Pictured: A hand holding the bag open to show the closing strap and badge are all one piece. Also provides scale: the bag is not quite as wide as the hand is long.

As for my #nalbinding attempt, I actually got reasonably good at the one basic stitch (Oslo Stitch I think.) I made a pair of fingerless mittens and a hat (of sorts). The green wool came from my Nalbinding for Beginners kit sold by Emma 'Bruni' Boast at Jorvik Festival 2019.
The first mitten took months of trial & unravel iterations - you can see the left one is poor down by the cuff and slowly improves, while the right one is more uniform.
I think the right mitten took 2 weeks and the hat 8!

A simple nalbinded hat folded flat so it looks like a gibbous moon turned 90 degrees. It's made of browny-orange and green wool, starting browny-orange at the centre for eight rows, then green for another eight, then browny-oranmge again for the remaining twenty.
A pair of nalbinded fingerless mittens. They're mainly green wool with browny-orange thumb sections. The left one starts off very rough at the cuff but improves as the stitches go up. The right one is pretty uniformly good and has a much more sensibly attached thumb tube.
A white man (Alyn) with dark, long hair and a beard wearing the nalbinded hat. In use, the shape becomes more pronounced as being flat-topped (or centered) and curving down towards the edge of the hat. It isn't obvious, but it needed to be made about 5% bigger as it's riding up at the front and puckering slightly across the top.

Went to #Iceland in 2019, and bought a pair of woolen socks from a tiny craft stall in the #Vestfjörður. After a few years they wore out. Being knitted, not nålbinded they started to unravel. I finally got around to making my 1st repair attempt today with some WYS wool I had bought for my #nalbinding. I'm hoping that using the pure wool will allow the repairs to felt together over time. It's probably obvious, but the left one is the 1st attempt.

A pair of socks on some wooded planks. The socks are woolen knitted items, yellow wool from ankle to calf and orange wool from ankle to toe. At the point on each sock where the ball of the big toe would rub is a relatively poor attempt at repair made using an orangy-brown wool stitched around the outside of each hole and then woven back and forth inside the holed area. Who knows how long the repair will last, but the socks are wearable today at least!

NO Caity, you do not need to take up another craft, I don’t care if it looks fascinating!
But… but… this one isn’t expensive, it’s just some raffia, and a lot of time, really meditative, I bet I could find a needle thingy like that..and look, I could just do it while I was having to sit for other things…

Hi I'm Tuttle. I'm a multiply #disabled #yarn crafter who's disabilities dramatically affect what I craft, how I craft, and that I craft.

I currently do a lot of #knitting, #crochet, #TunisianCrochet, #nalbinding, and #spinning on an #espinner. If a day goes by where I'm not doing at least one, if not two or three of these, it is a significant flare, because my bodymind wants to be always crafting and feels better when it is.
