Road will open at 9am. All vehicles must carry tire chains including 4WD. The uphill gate closes at 4pm; all vehicles must be below the entrance station by 5pm. Lifts and children’s sledding area open. No potable water, or food service are available.

“Badlands, In Shadow” — Badlands formations in early morning shadows, Death Valley.

This is another is a series of photographs I made one morning at Zabriskie Point during my late February visit to Death Valley National Park. Previously I mentioned that I rarely photograph at this spot any more — after a couple of decades it takes some pretty special conditions to persuade me to join the crowd there. I stopped when pre-dawn clouds suggested the potential for a very colorful sunrise. 1. To get away from normal life and to get refreshed a little bit.
2. To hike.
3. To learn some new photography techniques.

South Dakota Badlands Beautiful Afternoon Four guys from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, went to the SD badlands for an early spring adventure. The purpose of this trip was: 1. To get away from normal life and to get refreshed a little bit. 2. To hike. 3. To learn some new photography techniques. 4. And to capture a certain picture that I had in my minds eye. That certain picture was to be the majestic badlands (The grand canyon of the Midwest) in morning or evening light, you know, sunrise or sunset time frame. Well it was only the first evening that we were there. The light conditions were not what I was looking for. So while I did not get the perfect shot, I did have a great adventure. The South Dakota Badlands are a rugged, otherworldly landscape of eroded rock formations, deep canyons, and sprawling prairies. Located in Badlands National Park, this region is famous for its striking layered rock formations, which display vibrant hues of red, orange, yellow, and white due to sediment deposits over millions of years. The dramatic scenery was shaped by wind and water erosion, creating jagged peaks, towering spires, and deep ravines.
