#Mongkok by night. Before the pandemic this used to be a vibrant shopping district, marked with #Hongkong s signature #neonsign s and full of small cheap stores and restaurants. Mong Kok is where you could go to grab a quick bite or get a tacky souvenir on the Ladies' Street Market. During the pandemic many shops closed and temporary 1$ type stores opened instead. Nevertheless, Mong Kok remains a food and shopping haven for many, and although the neon signs have been vanishing one by one, slowly the crowds have come back.

I finally made a super sour loaf! Bread 15B came from a stiff (acetic acid) starter and sat in the fridge for about a week with a bunch of time out of the fridge to age an have its delicious bacteria from just right. I added olives an pecans to it with wheat germ around the outside. The bread is flavorful enough to hold it's own against the olives!

Though I would also share some work projects- the "No 79" is going to some fancy Manhattan development and will be outside, with housings. Should look good- and with 3 bars on the ground floor of this new residential building, I may actually go see my work when it's installed an have a drink :) Big ruby numbers- it WILL be seen.
All that and the "ANCY"- a test for this new Spielberg movie was 1 days work (along with some email sending). Feels good to put in a full days work an be able to share with you all :)

Roto-sphere "Sputnik" sign at Joe's Liquors in Memphis, TN. According to the Roadside Architecture website, "Roto-Sphere signs are perhaps the biggest and most dramatic neon signs ever mass-produced. They were created and produced by Warren Milks from 1960-1971. Milks made approximately 234 of them at his sign shop in Bossier City, LA. Only about 20 Roto-Spheres are left. Of these, only four are fully operational (Memphis, Lakeland, Whiteland, and Salt Lake City). Only 9 are still on public display...Not only does the sign rotate on its pole, but the ball itself is composed of two counter-rotating hemispheres."

I took this photo in 2016 on my trip to Memphis to visit family and to attend Gonerfest 13, a punk rock/garage rock music festival run by Goner Records.
