SEASCAPE I / Nordfrieslandmuseum Husum

This is the first work I produced within my ongoing series "SEASCAPES" in 2020.

Portrait staged in front of a seascape without title by Karl Rohwedder-Ruge (1865-1940), dated on the first third of the 20th century. The painting is part of the collection of Nordfriesland Museum. Nissenhaus Husum. The artist is surrounded by single use plastic items typically found in public space.

‘Paper or plastic?’ will no longer be a choice at #California grocery stores

"A 2014 law aimed to ban #PlasticBag use allowed grocers to offer customers thick, heavier plastic bags that could theoretically be reused after purchase. In reality, however, those bags found little use after customers unloaded their groceries at home.

The goal is to strengthen California’s leadership on #microplastics."

Los Angeles Times · California tries again to ban plastic grocery bagsBy Susanne Rust

The #plastic industry claims that their new, thicker bags are exempt from the state's plastic bag ban, but most are neither reused nor recycled.

Now, 2 bills in the legislature would close this loophole: SB 1053 & AB 2236.

If passed, this legislation would prohibit plastic bags from being provided at grocery checkout lanes and ensure plastic film bags are no longer considered “reusable", as Laura Deehan at Environment California and Fiona Hines at CALPIRG write in this great op-ed: eastbaytimes.com/2024/07/06/op #plastics #fossilfuels #trash #trashpollution #plasticbagban #plasticbag
